There are a couple of options that I can find. Dave Crossno and Lee Shaver .22 adapters.
I plan on getting one but the barrels are only 24 inches and my rifle has a 30 inch barrel.
I'm wondering about the last 6 inches that the .22 slug has to travel before it leaves the .40cal barrel.
Is it gonna foul up the outer barrel? Is it going to affect accuracy? Or can I get one longer than 24 inches?
I've never messed with something like this but it's very a intriguing project.
I really appreciate y'all giving me a hand...
Thanks,Bart

The longest one I have seen is a 26" one from Numrich. Of course that is only the barrel liner, which I believe is how the others are made.

The article by Shaver says he gets good accuracy at 100 yards with his.

I have one of the Crossno adapters for my 30" heavy Octagon barreled 1874 Shiloh Sharps. It is very accurate!

The shorter length of the liner doesn't seem to affect the accuracy of my BPCR loads, nor do I find a measurable amount of fouling in the bore ahead of the liner.

The only hassle is you have to manually extract each cartridge with a tool as the Sharp's extractor won't do it.

Since I'm not doing a rapid fire competition, or repelling boarders, I'm fine with it. grin

I've had the Crossno for several years and have used it in 1874's with barrel lengths from 26" to 32" with no problems. Find ammo it likes and you'll have a great practice tool, especially for off-hand.

Just follow the directions on how to lubricate the liner, and coat the bore ahead of the liner with something like TC bore butter, and all will be well.

I'm looking forward to shooting this thing in rimfire. It's been such a big deal getting ammo made and putting everything on paper where I like it.
It's definitely going to be fun shooting such a big .22. I just need to find a place to buy one that has one in stock.
I'm going to post pics of the groups. Hopefully they'll be better than my BPCR groups.

I have the Lee Shaver insert for my Pedersoli rolling block. Mine “was” very accurate. I made the mistake of storing the insert in my rifle case and it got bent. My dad made me a set of the 22 lr regulation silhouettes and I practiced on them a lot before I would go to a match. Really helped out practicing off had shooting. My rolling block is a tack driver.

Bart, RMerta has a great point. When you get yours, make a PVC pipe case for it. Yeah, it's another thing to keep track of, but you won't bend it accidentally.

The Crossno liners come in a pvc tube, that fits nicely in the rifles case.

I bought a 40-65 -22 LR Crosnoe liner and use it in my Shiloh 40-70 2.1" works fine. same rim dia. what you need to figure is how far up the liner will go in the 40-90 SB chamber. I think you would want atleast a 1/4" or more in the neck. 40-90 SBN is 2 .625" OAL and the 40-65 liner is 2.10" how long a neck on the 40-90 SBN? Don you got a figure on the length? Magnum Bob

No , Bob I haven't measured the neck, but it's well some where around 1/2 inch. Also don't know if the case mouth of the 40-65 would be supported by the the shoulder of the 90 bn chamber or not. Guess I'll have to dig my 40-65 liner out and try it. Best bet for the 40-90 would be to get ahold of Mike at Crossno and see if he'll build one for the big 40. Dave built me one for the 44-77, but I had to send him 3 fired cases, not to long before his health gave out.

Ok did a quick check. The neck on a fire formed 40-90 bn from my Shiloh is right at .6 long, a fired 40-65 case is 2.19, doing a close visual , the 4065 case mouth would be supported in the neck portion of the bn chamber... So yeah a 40-65 liner would work,, but just barely.
