Heck, I just ordered the 2-7 rimfire version, I needed another rimfire scope after some scope swappin'. For 180 and fs, with vx2 glass and that twilight system, I figured it was worth to try one. I did order a vx2 also to put up for a rainy day.

The Freedoms are back up on the website and I've seen a few rimfire and duplex versions on ebay.

They are running roughly an ounce heavier depending on the version.

Sounds like most of the tooth gnashing is from guys that would be slumming if they bought a VX-2 anyway. I was bemoaning the loss of the VX-1,2 1-4x20mm, it is the backbone of my coyote hunting rifles and combo guns. I've never looked at a scope because of it's sleek line, I even have a Burris with a wart on the backside of the turret housing and have to grind a space on some one piece bases for it, but it does it's job.

I like that they didn't put the quick focus on the eyepiece, is usually gets in the way of the bolt handle when mounting low, the bigger serrations on the adjustment ring will make it easier to use in the winter with wool gloves on. While listing the power format 1.5x4 they've kept the same FOV as the older 1-4 sounds good to me. I'm looking forward to Trying the pig plex on one of the coyote guns. Sounds like it is a win-win for me, pretty much a VX-2 at $100. less money.

I'm pretty much of a set it and forget it guy, if I have to turn turrets to hit something it is to far away to shoot anyway, most of my rifles I can hold on fur to 300 yards. Heck I have a Balvar 8 set up in a Leupold standard base and rings, talk about non-adjustable.

As far as the oversize gold ring it will have camo tape over it anyway.

Don't like the design, wouldn't buy one. I like a sleek and trim look but it seems like blocky and angular is "in" this year, a good match for the new Savage line.

Guys, The initial launch of the VX-Freedom is a starter release of 10 scopes. There will be more following this release in the series later on this year

Wow, how the mighty have fallen. Glad I stocked up on the VX3 and VX2 scopes I wanted. Doubt I'll be back to the Leupold well.

We have no idea how the new scopes are built or how they will perform. For all we know they may explode in a mushroom cloud as soon as we take them out of the box, or they may be the most rugged, most precise tracking, longest lasting scopes made to date. Or somewhere in-between.

I'm going to reserve judgement.

Scope dialers are a tiny segment of the market. Heck the frequent posters here on the 'fire are an even smaller segment--the number of people who have more than a 1000 posts represent couple percent of the total fire members. Most shooters are fine with a scope that holds zero.

Casey----You are 100% correct. I would say the vast majority of hunters are "set it & forget it". 2" high @100yards & go hunt. Bob

I wonder if the military snipers ever twist dials? Curious to see how many of the 3600 Mark 4 scopes on the M2010 platform crapped out.

Hell, the darn scopes now have barely enough tube length to mount w/o rail. Why would they take one of the only ones left w/decent mounting length and shorten it? I tell you, sometimes I think Leupold is run by non-hunting idiots. powdr

Yeah, no kidding. Back to the old 1.75-6 before the E version. That one was great on a 22 or short action in the right setup, but it sucked for everything else. Not sure what the obsession is with skimping on the tube mounting length. That goes for many brands and many models.

That is one ugly scope. With the big clunky turret caps and magnification ring, it looks like the cheap Bushnell AR line of scopes. One of the main things Leopold had going for it were sleek, low profile designs that could be mounted low. And it looks like the tubes are shorter too. That's no good.
