Same as my old TJ. On the same roads, my current Tacoma gets 16 even and my Nissan got 18.4. The only reason I didn't keep the F250 was I couldn't get used to the automatic tranny not compression braking like a stick when I'd let off the gas on twisty mountain passes and I was going through a lot of diaper changes. frown I'm pretty sure I used up all 9 of my lives and was on borrowed time. Someday when I'm older I may try again.

Did you have it in "M" Manual mode and downshift on your own? Tow/Haul mode will also allow you to drive in "D" and it'll use the tranny to compression brake as well.

Good point . My ‘14 f250 is great in two /haul going up and down hills. Down is where you notice it due to all the “braking” and the motor winding up.

They introduced the manual mode a few years ago. I’ve rarely had the need to use it.
Only time I use the 'manual mode' is when I have the Raptor on the back and goin' up/down those hills on 'truck' 16 from I-90 at Rapid City down to Custer. Would I have to? Nope. But it sure works nicely manually choosing shift points going up those hills and gearing down after the apex... That engine brake feature on the 6.7 allows me two higher gears and yet maintaining the same speed going down that steep grade about a mile south of the 79/16 intersection. Previous truck ('11) didn't have that feature - and, to keep off the brakes I hadda be in 3rd at the top of the hill to keep rpms from getting out of hand..

Night and day.. Can't wait to try this truck now when we hook it up for the SD run in Aug.

That dealer is 50 miles up the road but I would ONLY buy it through our local Wolf Point dealer.

Fox Ford or bust!

The auto hubs on my '03 do the same thing, and yep, they are locked in all winter and spring....

Nice truck. I'd want the 4.10 or 4.30 gears in instead of 3.73's. That's just me.

NYH1.

I have a 2013 ram 3500 gasser with 4.10's. These new gas engines like to rev, pulling grades at 5000 RPM's kinda rev. So 4.10's are really nice. Took me a bit to get comfortable with running that kind of RPM under load, but that's the way they run.

There is a 4" body lift block in the F350's that is not present on the F-250's. Yes, the box sides and endgate are both lower on an F250 than an F350.

You sure about that? Reason I ask is my previous ('16) F-350 DRW is lower than my new one ('17).. I chalked it up to the fact the new one has the FX 4X4 package and the previous truck did not.. But you're right in the distance - this new truck is 4" higher than the '16..

I have a 2015 Ram 2500 with the 6.4L Hemi. Mine has 4.10's too. I would've went with 4.30 or 4.56 gears if they were available. My truck came with 275/70-18 tires. They're a little over 33 inches tall. I'm around 2000 RPM's at 75 MPH. Tow's really good, plow's great.

How many miles do you have on it? Any issues?

I got it in July 2015. I'm at 24k miles. I don't drive a lot in the sense that I don't take trips and such. I work it regularly. I use it to tow my trailer (5 to 6K lbs.) in the warmer months. Once in a while I'll tow heavier trailers 10Kish lbs. I have a Fisher 8.5' Xtreme V-plow that I use a lot here in Central NY winter (been out 2 time in last 18 hours). This is my 3rd season plowing with it. Truck's been great so far. I haven't had any issues with it. It's a beast for sure.

I gotta be honest, I'm a Dodge/Ram guy. However, I think all three brands are making good 3/4 and 1 ton trucks right now. They all have really good engines both gas and diesel and good drivetrains. As long as you get the truck equipped correctly for your needs, I don't think you can go wrong.

NYH1, I see where that would be handy for the hills and pulling but for my use the 3.73's should be fine.

Good info, thanks Clay.

I'm gonna to check and see if there is a new F250 on the local dealers lot and compare to the F350's. In the summer time I am in and out of the toolbox a lot....

Absolutely, if it'll work for you that's all that matters.

I didn't know if there would be enough difference to favor the diesel. I know a Cummins is 100k power train compared to 60k for a gas pickup.

Yep, you are correct.

I had to double check the website.

Ben, does Cummins have a 'good' emissions setup?

I guess the 6.7 isn't bad but I've heard of tank heaters failing and sensors going haywire.

Good engine otherwise.

We have a Ram 4500, with about 200k that hasn't had any problems with it's def system. I just bought a 3500 in the spring and it's got so far 15k with no problems.
We buy it buy the 55 gal drum and it lasts a while. It seems like I get 3-5 tanks of fuel for every 2.5-5 gal of def. I don't even really think about it.

Diesels have def and gas trucks have ethanol, either can be trouble.

IF You have other pickups to do the pulling then you don't really need the diesel. But want something to haul more than an average F150. Than a gas 250 is a good compromise. Not too stiff to bomb around in, but won't squat too bad when you've got a ton in the back.

They're down to 60k on drive train warranty?! [bleep] Christ, $60,000 and you don't have enough confidence in your product to warrant the powertain for 100,000? Ill be out of warranty in a year and a half. My 2015 was still 100,000....
