A few days ago a thread was started by a poster asking “ Is a 270 Gay?” I popped off with a comment that “ Not when a hot girl is carrying one”...Ha, ha, really funny!

Then I started reading about the 270 WSM ballistics with 140g NAB’s and considered it a solid set up for me hunting Blacktail Deer, if I could get it in a lightweight rig. I just bought a Nosler M48 Liberty with a 24” barrel in 270 WSM. It weighs around 6.5lbs unscoped.

I’m stoked to set this rifle up for packing up and down the mountains and making shots out to 500 max. Am, I on the right track going with 140g NAB? Or, is there another round I should take a serious look at for 50-500 yard shots?

I have one, it’s a very very good caliber. I knocks hell out of deer and pigs. I shoot 140 Accubonds in mine. I want to try some 130 Trophy Bonded tipped Bear Claws. I used to shoot the original Bear Claws. They were great bullets!

I've killed an Antelope, a Muley and a cow Elk with the 140gr NAB out of the regular .270 Winney. Not a ton of kills with it, but it performed very well in all cases. If I was working up a load for the WSM, that's the first killin' bullet I would try.

140 AB never the wrong choice. Might look at the 145 eld-x too. I’ve had good luck in limited application fwtw.

My brother in law and I carry a 270 WSM for a back up rifle elk hunting. The thing loves 160 grain Partitions. You are going to like the Liberty. Nice rifles.

.270 WSM is an easy pass for me..... I’ll take a 7 Rem Mag.

I had a couple buddies get into the whole .270 WSM thing.... soon after, they were wearing skinny jeans and making spinach dip in a bread bowl. Those homos do kill the schitt outta stuff though, mostly with 140 Accubonds. The pics are always awesome.... with those hunter-orange feather-boas and Sitka Gear Tu-Tus....

Question: when you buy a .270 WSM.... does it come with one of the “=“ stickers on the stock... or are those typically installed by the new owner?

Man, I’ve done well with the 140 AB and 150 Partitions in my WSM. DS has a great point about the 7 Rem. With like Bullets out to the distances you mentioned they are both about the same in my book. I do think my 270 and 7 WSMs have been the easiest rifles that use book loads to find accurate and fast loads with.

Buddy of mine bought an AR in 6.8the other day.... it came with a bumper sticker that said: “Support Gay Midgets.... shoot a 6.8 SPC”

Scotty.... with a 140 Accubond the .270 WSM and 7 Mag are the same thing (16bore’s spreadsheet even says so).... but stick a 180 in that 7mm and it’s a whole’nuther animal.

I have a 270 wsm and have been really happy with accubonds and monos. Mine shoots 130gr ballistic tips into tiny groups but they make a mess if you hit a shoulder. Truthfully, they often make a mess if you don't. It's a caliber I was pleasantly surprised with. I would happily carry mine on any hunt that I would ever do in the states. Congrats on your purchase. I have been eyeballing a Liberty as well. People don't seem to have many bad things to say about them.

I've been wanting to try the 140 Accubond but have not gotten to it yet. The 130 Partition shoots and works so well in mine I have not played around much with others. Playing with the 110 grain TTSX now. Looking forward to seeing how it performs on game.

I was all about the TTSX bullets in my 30-378 before I sold it off. Still load it in a 300 Wby with solid bang flops...Went to NAB’s in my other two 300 mags that didn’t like the Barnes and haven’t looked back. I’ve been fortunate, thus far on shot placement with the NAB. Exception, one antelope I hit on the run in the shoulder. Big mess! I will load up some Barnes and NAB’s. Thanks!

Something to consider. A 270WSM with a bullet like the Barnes 130gr TSX will shoot completely thru a mature elk . Even at very acute angles. Easily driven to 3300FPS with a slow powder it delivers less recoil than a 140 C&C plus a flatter trajectory. Also with the Barnes 270 110gr TTSX is a bullet capable of completely penetrating the largest muley buck. Even thru heavy bone. These bullets have to be tried to be appreciated & their capability understood. They far out penetrate the Nosler partition. Try one & see for your self.

You have to be careful as it’s a slippery slope. Once I got my 270WSM I started hanging out with my straight rifles less and less as time went on. Now it seems I never see them an more.
