The vet bought a new machine, like Minnie Pearl, it still had the price tag on. I did not want to get too graphic, this is a fam ily site? The last bull flunked, better to know now.

Testing your bulls is the best way to improve your herd.
That, and culling the open cows, gives you better calf crops and bigger checks in the fall.
“You must endeavour to enjoy the pleasure of doing good. That is all that makes life valuable.” Robert E. Lee, in a letter to his invalid wife.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is an open cow? A cow that isn't pregnant when she should be.
I could wish a lot of things on my worst enemy but neuropathy ain't one of them.

Some old heifers are best kept over open.

We haven't tested a lot of bulls yet, but will be soon. Had a fair amount of temps on the wrong side of zero back in January, hopeful it hasn't hurt many bulls.
I have a machine like the one pictured, it can be run on an "auto program cycle" or manual mode. The young vets like the program, but I can usually collect a bull quicker by controlling the dial.
I could tell the story about the lady client that wondered if she could borrow the machine, but as Richard said, this is a family site...

Doc, if I can keep all the veterinarians straight, you may remember Doctor Reece's hand, and the frayed coat cuff? That is a Producers seed corn jacket, a gift he said, Doctor is cheap about some things. (smile)

I wondered if that was Dr. Reece in the photo.
Hey, I'd wear nicer clothes to work if my patients didn't crap on me!

Now Doc, you make me think of another vet telling of when veterinarian were supposed to wear neckties working. That, I have yet to see.

One of my classmates was from north Arkansas and his mentor wore a tie and practiced out of a Cadillac convertible! Had a bumper hitch and pulled the chute with it! (would have been early-mid 70's)
Another classmate was from a dairy area and said the vet he helped carried a box full of neckties and would tie one on a gate or the milk house door handle to let them know he'd been there. Clients collected them and dropped them by the clinic when they were in town?!?
My son in law asked me why vets wear green overalls, is it a tradition? My answer was "What color is cow manure?"

Life changing test for the bull.
Will he be signed up for the season or be seasoned in a Big Mac, double arch Berger, cuddled between a pair of sesame seed buns.
Big test. Big consequences. Big season vs. big Berger.
