Modern agriculture has screwed up the tomato until it's inedible.

They are working now on watermelons and will soon have them hog feed.

Iowa has open enrollment, and plenty of public schools recruit. I'm not trying to start anything, the jealousy just gets old.

I can rant plenty. Trouble is, it tends to be negative and nobody likes negative, including me.

All this high school football talk has perked my ears too, Gus.

Why do we pay HS football coaches in public schools anyway?

Why is everyone concerned with HS football at all.

Why do my taxes go to support football anyhow.

After all,

it's not like it's a real sport like HOCKEY!

PS, and my other rant is there's only another 13 games in the NHL regular season, friggen baseball is getting ready to start and too much news is on concerning that "sport", and there are important races going on for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

WA state has zero recruiting at the high school level, at least that is the rule. The greatest violator of that rule, as measured by penalties, is a public high school in the wealthiest district in the state. laugh A private school is currently fudging the recruiting rule (to say it mildly) but has not been officially caught. This is not speculation but based on specific players swiped from a public school team a friend of mine coaches, one of whom returned after one year (and the coach made him sit out his next to last year of HS ball in keeping with the rules).

When we were unhappy with our youngest son's high school options we checked out a couple of private high schools in WA. He was a good ball player so I asked the principal at one school if they offered scolarships. He turned grim faced and said absolutely not. "We get accused of that all the time because our teams do well at the state level, so we bend over backwards to avoid any hint of recruiting or subsidy for play." O. K. Son led a team high into the state playoffs for three years and never got a penny of financial break and the school attendance enforcer penalized him when I took him out for one day of hunting. All this to say it is not equal from one school to another, private or public, and there are cheaters and straight shooters among both.

Some of those kids at private schools are self recruited, come from a stable family with a work ethic, and produce good teams because of it.

Messin with paper at the McDonalds:

Cruising down the Interstate, you catch sight of those glorious Arches just in time. For the last 10 miles it has become apparent that your short courtship with that jalapeno-chili burger is over and it is now time to “part company”. Now whoever came up with the bright idea to put gigantic industrial toilet paper rolls in public restrooms is just plain mean. 50,000 yards of the thinnest, tightest rolled, non-perforated paper. Any tension on it like trying to tear off some, will turn it the width of a shoe string at a time when you need shop towel.

Up front, more torment. Back in the day you could tap the end of the drinking straw on a surface and force the paper right off. Jeez, kids used to tear one end off and blow the paper missile off. Nowadays the paper is on the straw so tightly that Stormy Daniels couldn’t blow the end off. (Although, someone might pay $130k to see her try). Am I the only one fighting to get the damn paper off the straw?

The only thing worse that an empty napkin dispenser is one that is so overfilled, you can only pull the napkins out one square inch at a time. Now this one we can’t blame on the paper companies. I picture some flunky kid that couldn’t figure out the fryer or soda dispenser and given the task of “just keep those damn napkin dispensers full”. Kids decides that if he adds extra napkins, he can smoke a doob and take a nap in the parking lot. He routinely adds 8-20 times the normal capacity. My new fast food routine is bathroom, drink, straw, napkin, and then scare some stoned kid sleeping in his car. I know I should only yell at him for the napkins, but I usually holler about the toilet paper and straws too.

Was driving the other day with the wife (THE wife? I only have the one). Sun and showers I think. Look on windshield, which on first glance appears clean, a mark of sorts. Noticed right in front of me a vertical streak, dead center in the drivers view. Mmmmn? now why is that? Apparently, somewhere along the line, "engineers" (no doubt.........those folks again crazy ) decided it was ABSOLUTELY necessary for the passenger side wiper to come ALL the way over, halfway across the drivers side wiper path, stop DIRECTLY in the view straight ahead of the driver (you know, the important person in the car who might want to see clearly wink ) and leave a streak right there at the end of its travels. It appears to be worse during warm spells when attempting to clean off the cow piss from the semi hauling cattle back north to summer grazing, the residue from the passenger side wiper dries a bit before the driver's side can sweep it down.

Can the smart folks here (or the humorous ones) provide an answer as to why the right side wiper MUST come ALL the way over to dead center in the driver's field of vision? Do I need those few square inches of overlap for safe driving purposes? Could the wiper not just stop at the half way point?

Geno

PS, the rant could continue in regards to the cow piss, but there's some relatively nice fellas on here that raise beeves. I'll not rag on them...................yet! laugh

PPS Ranchers, thanks, my roast beef tonight was quite a joy to consume. Pic in the food thread. smile
