I use Mag primers when:
When using Ball Powder charges over 40 grains same here
When igniting charges of over 45 grains in .308 size cases Never thought about that one
When using powder charges over about 58 grains in an ‘06 size case No experience with this either
Always when using a Magnum size case (7/.300/etc) Always for me too
Interesting stuff. I'm sure you have reasons for saying so.
When charges pushing 50 grains in a 08 case.... or 60 grains in an ‘06 case.... it’s usually pretty slow powder. For me it started with Retumbo in the .243 and .25/06.
7828/RL25/Magpro/RS Magnum.... all work great in the .243, 6mm Rem, 6mm and 25 aught’sixes, etc... and I’ve found they all prefer a mag primer, especially when it gets cold.
