Winchester Super x 3 20 ga make a nice soft shooting turkey gun.

I have several 20s, my 1187 with 21" barrel is my go to. Its alittle on the heavy side but even with the hot 1 5/8oz tss load recoil is still not bad at all. I have a lt magnum 1100 compact that my nephew shots that doesn't recoil much either. My sx3 with 26" barrel is very minimal on recoil as well. It is not a light weight but handles very well. My wife has a benelli m2 that's super light but with a heavy 1 5/8 oz dose of tss you can tell the diffence in weight and interia action as it kicks pretty good. It is comparable to the recoil of my 870 with same load.
My Daddy has back issues and he will be using my sx3 or 1187 if he goes so that's my recommendation.
Hope this helps as I've considered the same options your condsidering for him and shoot all of the a lot that's the best ans I can give.
