Might not be gay..... but the 6.5 M-S has some serious head game.

Good round.... good set-up..... still gay.

Haw, haw!

Why you laffin Capt. Hook? We all know you’re rock’n tight jeans and silk shirts while carrying a 270 win. Swing it Sister...Nah, JK Hook. Except for the jeans and shirt part..🤣

I love this 'gay' cartridge conversation. Have gotten a many a laugh reading the back and forth ribbing amongst the 'usual suspects' on The Fire. I have never been a fan of the 270 although it is undoubtedly one of the best all around cartridges ever developed. I have owned a few 270s and killed a few deer with them, but just cannot maintain an interest in them. My lack of enthusiasm comes primarily
from the fact that there are so many of them out there and I prefer to carry the less common calibers and rifles....just for the fun of it.

My latest infatuation....a 6.5X54 M-S complete with a period correct Hensoldt scope. I just cannot imagine anyone considering it 'gay'!

Just LMAO at all the .270 bashing! I am enjoying the hell out of it! I’d rather have a sister in a New Orleans ho house than a brother with a .270 😂😂😂

Sounds like a one and done rifle if you needed one. Anything shy of great bears and would likely handle a grizz in a pinch with good bullets in the right spot if needed. A little light but not bad for hunting and likely not for plinking. I run a 280AI 24” tube that weighs in at an even 9#. Strictly fed 160’s at 3000 FPS. Handles everything from mice to moose rather nicely and your 270 WSM will do the same I’m sure.

Heaviest big game rifle I currently own is a Steyr 270 WSM. Weighs 9Lbs all up and easily has one of the best triggers of any rifle I have shot in a very long time.

Brink72: Appreciate your post. My 270 wsm and grizzle country will never meet. Yogi and I just wouldn’t get along well unless I’m carrying my 300 RUM that can touch him from afar...Nobody Home But Us Chickens 🐓😎

What a beauty I hate to tell you this but several African PH's and writers from Hemingway onward considered the 6.5x54 as the ultimate ladies rifle.

I can easily see why they did. It is light, quick to point, and very low recoil. Thinking at it from that angle, I believe I will keep it far away from my wife and daughter.....just in case they decide IT IS a ladies rifle.

Yes hide it as that I believe was the rifle used in the "Short Happy Life of Francis MacComber"

Is that a Kahles or Pecar scope? Perhaps pre-war Zeiss?

It is a Hensoldt Dialyt. There are no other markings on it whatsoever, not even a Serial #. They show one just like it in the 1939 Stoeger catalog, but when this one was installed will likely never be known. The rifle is a 1939 build.
