I have my eye on a Browning Model 92 in 357mag at the LGS, I want to offer him a fair price but don't want to pay too much, I don't see them come up for sale often. I have one in 44 mag that I love and would like to get this one also, but I need to know approx pricing, as he will take a decent offer. He has it priced at $1000.00. It is in pristine shape and after looking at it thoroughly, working in the action, it actually looks unfired. No box or papers. It has a tag that says discontinued in 1986.
Any ideas on pricing?
Enough already, just shoot it!

Here's one on gunbroker: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/760014291And it appears to be the only one available.

For sale doesn't count for much, what sells is a better example. Here are some sold copies. A Browning is a very well made gun, $1000.00 may be about right. This has been available for a long time and at this price, it will be for a long time to come. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/758079655 These are sold, although 44, they are still more desirable. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/759081641https://www.gunbroker.com/item/760443422

I think 1000 is a good price. Loving to haggle I would walk in with 850 - 900 cash and tell him it’s what you have.

I have one in 45 Colt with octagonal barrel. I would not take less than $1200 for it. It IS NIB.

A B92 .357 is worth every penny of $1000. If you can get it for less all the better but don't let it get away. You will be hard pressed to find another in that condition.

I paid 1300 for mine a few years ago and was glad to get it. 1000 is a reasonable price IMO. My smith says the browning 92 is the best made of all the 92s.

OK, great. I was able to talk him into it for $800 out the door. And he gave me 6 boxes of older winchester 158 gr jacketed soft point. So I think I did well. Looking forward to seeing how it shoots!
I do love my 44 mag browning 92. But I got that one in the 90’s for $400 out the door. I have shot up to 300 gr bullets with a stiff charge of H100 without any issues.
Enough already, just shoot it!

It’s been in the safe for so long that I may not remember. I’m gonna have to check into it. I do know it’s 45 Colt with octagonal barrel for sure. Did Browning not offer one as I describe?

No, Browning only offered the B-92 as a round barrel carbine in either .357 or .44 Magnums. They did not make it in .45, and did not make it with an octagonal barrel. They did make the 1886 in .45/70 in two versions, a round barrel carbine and an octagonal barrel rifle.

I once owned the Browning 1886 with octagonal barrel. I sold it. I don't collect guns. I shoot them. I just could not bring myself to so much as put a blemish on that gun.

Man you must live right:-) You will be very pleased. My two preferred loads are a 158 Speer Gold Dot over 18.0 grains of Lil Gun or a Hornady 180XTP over 15.0 grains of the same powder. Let us know how you like the rifle.

Took her to the range and wow, what a slick action. I always forget how smooth and slick the actions are on these 92’s. I haven't shot my 44 in a while, now I want to! I shot it over a pack at 50 yds and accuracy was right around an inch. Plenty for an open sighted pistol caliber rifle. great trigger no slack, breaks clean, and who doesn’t like 11 rounds in the tube?
Enough already, just shoot it!

Awesome. They are as good as it gets.
I had one at one time but it went away with a bunch of others when I needed to buy a piece of equipment.

Ooooh... That's nice.
Some day I'll have a 357...or a 45, as my 3rd centerfire plinking rifle.

That's a good price. I just picked up a B-92 44 mag trapper(16" barrel) two weeks ago. Paid $1100 OTD. Enjoy they are great little guns.
