Thanks Powdr. I guess the good news is there are good options without having to go heavy in bullet weight. I'll try the 90 grain Hornady GMX and I think I'll give the 110 ELDX a try. I'm satisfied it'll work well in the 257AI but we'll have to see if it's just too much for the 250AI. Thoughts?

OSU, I really would like to shoot the 110gr Accubond but 2800fps is about all one can get safely. I know 2800 is enough but I really like to stay with 100gr and below. I just think the 85-100grainers is where it's at w/the 250Ackley. powdr

Good points, powdr. Maybe I should reserve the 110 grain bullets for the 257 AI.

I would give R26 a try as it is a denser powder in the slightly slower than 4831 category. It is working well in my 6mmAI with the same range of bullets 95-115 so worth a try in the better Bob. 7828 SSC might be worth a try too as well as R23 & R16 for the lighter weight bullets. All of these are promising in the 6AI and the 25-06 so just on either side of the 257AI.

I've only had (1) barrel that started as Bob,went Better Bob and finally 25-284. Hint.
Pass the '22...and a new spout in 6mm.
Hint.

Powdr, I've been getting good velocity with Hybrid 100 V in the 250 Ackley with 115 Bergers. Kind of stumbled on it with the first powder I tried, so can comment on how others would perform.

Burr, your the second or third person that has told me about H 100 V. I've got 35lbs of powder that I need to shoot up before I try something new. I won't buy a powder that gets me 40-50 more fps than what I have on the shelf. powdr

I have been shooting my 257 Imp. since I finished it in 2001 . The load I settled on is 51 gr. of IMR 4350 with 100 gr. Hornady Spire Pts. CCI 250 primers. I can't remember for sure, but I chronographed it once then and it was 3250 fps or somewhere like that. In 2007 I loaded 50 rounds of that load and have 39 loaded rounds left. Ten of those rounds have taken Antelope, Mule Deer, Whitetail Deer, one Elk and one Coyote. All were taken with one shot except for the Coyote--he took two. I did shoot a few rounds each year before hunting season just to check sight in out of a different box of ammo. The shots I took ranged from 100 yds to 375 yds. I didn't use it this year as I concentrated on Elk and got one with my 30-06 so I didn't need anymore meat! It seems that the 257 Ackley improved can't be improved on to me------whatever works will be what works for you!
Of course this rifle is built on a 98 Mauser action!

It's no secret that H100V gives relatively high velocities in the .257R so I'll bet it'll shine in the AI version too.

I would think the AI should stretch that a bit. H-100V the velocity champ in the Roberts, mine shooting sub MOA with the 24” Brux barrel. DF
