I've got a set of 660's in 350 and 6.5, a Mohawk in .308 and I just bought another Mohawk rebarreled to 22-250. Great guns!

One action is finished at the smiths and will probabley be a 358 win, since a 338 Fed won't fit I was told,

The 338 Federal fits a 600 or 660 with room to spare, so you got bad info there, Thismortalcoil. The 338 Federal is the same case as the 358, just necked to a different caliber.

Weagle, what stock is on the 660 in the pic? That one's a looker!

Model 600s in 308 Win and 6mm Rem, nuther one rebarreled to 22-250, matched pair of Model 660's in 6.5mm Rem Mag and 350 Rem Mag, NEED a 660 in 222.

Talked to Federal earlier this year, and they said the OAL was a bit longer that the standard 308 and it might not fit in some short action mags, the tech said he wasn't sure but the 600 might be iffy. He also said the shoulder was slighty forward of a 338-08 so if you had a rifle for the wildcat, don't shoot the 338 Fed in it. Now this was back when they first came out with the press release and the tech did say the specs weren't 100%. If so then a 338 is an option, but with Ruger coming out with a new 358 win. Maybe some good factory ammo is not far behind.

Never owned a Model 600. I had a stainless T/C Encore in the .350 and had a custom made stock that matched the old 600 but it just wasn't the same.
Also had a Model 673 .350 Rem mag. but it was a little heavy and long compared to the origanal.
I really like the looks of the old 600 / 660 's

350Mag. The stock on that 660 is the factory stock. It's just been stripped and refinished with Tru Oil.

I also had a early production 600 in 35 remington. It was just a shooter grade gun but it brought a little over $700 on GB since it was chambered in .35

I had a 600 Mohawk in .308 Win., but I gave it to a young friend of mine that needed a deer rifle. That was back in the mid 1970s. He still has that rifle and while it now looks like it been through ever war that has been fought on this planet, it still is a straight shootin' rifle, one he won't part with.
I also still have a Remington 660 in .308 that is on it's third stock. I got rid of the factory stock because I thought it was totally butt ugly and replaced it with a mannlicher style stock. The Remington didi a recall on the safety, and when Remington's loacal repair shop made the fix, they had to open up the area for the new trigger. They did not seal the opening and after a hunt in one hell of a rainstorm, the stock split from all the moisture. I replaced that one with an early H&S Precision lightweight Fiberthane stock that they made while still located in Prescott Arizona. It still sits in that stock today and it ain't for sale. In the Mannlicher stock, that rifle made the longest shot on a deer that I have ever taken. My hunting buddies had wounded it and it was running off. I will admit that it was a Hail mary shot couple with about every bit of good luck I have ever gotten at one time, but I did drop the deer at 427 paces, witnessed by mt two buddies. All three of us paced it off and we averaged out the total of the three sets of paced steps. Sad to say, both hind quarters were pretty badly shot up by my buddies. To this day, it baffles the hell out of me how any animal could run like that deer deer with both hind quarters as badly shot up as they were on this deer. Nice deer though as he dressed out at 195 pounds.

...little wonder there are so few M600/M660s on the market...everyone who owns one won't sell it..if they are smart that is...

I missed a MINT .308 last month at a local shop by just a few hours. It had a ok scope on it but was only $425.00 I think...and it was MINT.

Funny to see this thread right now this afternoon I saw several of these rifles, including three 350s, in a pawnshop. Its DJs Sport Shop in Bothell, WA, but theyre not open again until Monday.

Just after I got out of the Army, I hunted elk with a 600 in 308. I didnt get an elk, but I did get to meet a great little carbine. After I got back, it was in the gunshop where I worked when the previous owner came in. He decided he wanted it back, and ONE OF MY COWORKERS SOLD IT TO HIM.

Several years later I bought a M-7 S/S in 308. I shoot M-7s faster because of the bolt handle geometry, so I prefer them. But Ill admit to having a warm spot in my heart for the 600, even though aesthetically, it combines the worst of a Weatherby with the worst of a Colt Python.

ive handled several of those lil carbines a friend lent me one of his for awhile when we were deciding what kinda rifle to get for my wife and step-daughter. my only problem with it is the bolt doesnt seem ideal for working with the palm of your hand like i learned to do. the wife liked the bolt handle cause she grabs the bolt with her fingers. we both agree on the Remmy 7 for a light weight bolt gun. the 600 are nice lil rifles and i though about picking up a couple but since ive discovered the 7 i doubt ill change.

dang, iv always liked it myself. even if the LOP is much to long for me in a winter coat. the flat bottom forend is fantastic for using in a box stand.

Half-minute accuracy, while pleasant to observe, is in no way superior to one-minute accuracy in any serious rifle.

It's the forward sloping comb that kills me... Supposed to prevent your cheek from getting pounded...and it pulls my eye right into the scope... A .300 WM is the only gun that has scope cut me...minor...but enough to know I would prefer one of their old very classy Euro models with the straight comb...

I just remember they had three 350's and some others. They have so many nice guns that my head is always spinning when I leave. It's all I can do to remember the ones I want. I can't really keep anyone else's shopping list in mind.

Sorry.

My favorite rifle. Mine is a .243 Mohawk. Girlfreind has claimed it. The best hunting rifle set-up I have ever used.
Works especially well for manuevering inside a truck cab when popping hogs. Fits in a saddle scabbered really well.

Had a 600 in 6mm Rem., that Dad bought new for me in 1964
Had Pac-Nor re-barrel it to 25-284 a cupple years back, and put it in a McMillan mtn. rifle stock.
It's way better than the factory rifle.(grin!)

Mohawk...looks like you be looking for a new hunting rifle...I wouldn't want to take that one from her with that look in her eyes...

Virgil...I am just now working on loads for the 6.5 Remington Magnum. How long was the barrel of your .25-.284, what did you use for bullets and what did you get for velocities? The .250-3000 would probably make a great round in this gun also.

One 6-mm Rem purchased from Clarks Gun Shop near Warrenton Virginia in 1963 for $99.99. My first new rifle and my go to unit for everything from woodchucks to mule deer for a number of years. Fond memories and it still shoots great. It's now a deer/pronghorn getter for the wife.

Bob,
My barrel is a 3 groove-#1 conture super match Pac-Nor.
It's 23" and am shooting a 75 grain Vmax at aprox. 3700 FPS.
I've shot my best group ever with this rifle, .125 for 5 at 100 yds. with a 6x42mm loupie on it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Was able to do some chronographing today. The old probably 70s vintage 120 grain factory 6.5 RM ammo came in at 2930 fps... Not too shabby as most reloading manuals list 2900 as a top load for a 120 grain bullet. Maybe I can make 3K with a 125 Nosler handload...
