Hello.
Does anyone have a good guess at the powder or the comprable powder that Federal uses for the 62 gr 223 cartridge?

Tnx

Probably a non-canister powder, i.e. nothing you can get, and the powder can change with lot numbers.

If you want to get close, chronograph it, pull some bullets and weigh some charges. That should get you in the right territory regarding burn rate type, etc.

That's what I had in mind. I was hoping that someone had already gone to the trouble. I'm pretty rural so I hope that I can find a box at the couple places that might carry it.

Try CFE 223 powder or BLC2

CFE-223 will get where you want to be.

I load 25.5gr of CFE-223 & CCI-BR-4 for .223 rem pressures. Doesn't matter what brand brass, either.

I've had success with CFE223 with several over-60gr bullets, I'm sure it would work with the Fusion. Somewhere in the 25 to 26gr area.

I bought a bunch of the 62 gr Fed Fusion bullets from Rocky Mtn Reloaders. They shoot MOA over 26 gr Varget out of my .223 AR.

I've had good luck with Hodgdon's Benchmark with that weight of bullet, but not that particular one. Benchmark is one of Hodgdon's extreme powders so it's very temperature tolerant, if that is important.

How do those work on deer and hogs?

Tom, I've killed a bunch of hogs, whitetails, and coyotes with them. They work really well. Here's my latest kill with them;

Love the fusions in 223, my 6yo took his first two deer with them and his first hog a few weeks ago, furthest anything has gone has been 50 yards. I've been thoroughly impressed and my doubts of 223 being "too light" have been laid to rest. I'll have him on a 708 in a couple years but for now, no complaints.

Reportedly very good terminal performance. The thing I like about them is accuracy. Way easier to find an accurate load than the 64 BSB.

The first load I put together shot MOA. Can't beat that.

Only thing I've shot so far was a huge beaver. DRT.

Wasn't that curious about internal destruction, etc, to skin it....

Not too unlike Hornady seconds at MidwayUSA, RMR can't say these are Federal Fusion, but there is ample evidence, including first hand testimony here on the Fire, that's what they are.
