And I don't think they ever made another 260. Just went 6.5CM at that point.

I had a 260 Montana I bought second hand, few shots through it. Bedded it after having it cerakoted and it shot about 0.7” with some lively 129gn SST loads and H4350.

Like a fool I sold it when rationalizing my collection..... regretted it almost instantly. Bought a Hunter in 6.5CM as a new Monatana is over $1000 dearer here in Aus. Happy with the Hunter but I still miss the 260. But factory CM Ammo is much more widely available here and a wider range and cheaper than the 260.

I have heard about quite a few good shooting 260s, but they must have seen a lot of bad ones too.

Sounds like the 6.5CM Hunter is a good substitute.

That's interesting. I'm looking seriously at the new 2018 Hunter in Realtree Edge with the KimPro II finish in .270. If Bergara is making the barrels, they should shoot well indeed. I saw Adam Heggenstaller report on the Kimber Hunter on the NRA YouTube channel. He shot four factory loads (3 hunting loads and 1 match load), shooting (3) 3-shot groups from each (twelve 3-shot groups total), and the average of all 12 groups at 100 yards was 1.03". That's impressive.

I'm happy to report that on its maiden voyage to the range my new Kimber Hunter 6.5 CM acquitted itself nicely. Hornady 129 interlock American Whitetail loads printed just under an inch at 100 on a rainy day. With some load development I'm sure that it'll be more than sufficient. Happy to say that it fed and extracted fine, no magazine issues. All in all, I am super happy with the rifle and considering the purchase price, I think it is a REAL bargain.

I fitted it with Talley LW ring/base and a Bushnell 4200 Elite 3-9x40. Balance and weight are awesome.

Not according to the Kimber CS guy I just talked to, I asked him the Bergara barrel question and he said all Kimber rifle barrels are made in house....Hb

That's what I'd always thought as well, but didn't have any definitive proof other than "I think I remember reading that somewhere a while back," which isn't really definitive, at least not with me.

I just got my Hunter in 257Rob back yesterday from Kimber. Bought it new last winter, could not get it to shoot AT ALL. 13" groups, I have shotguns that pattern better. Called Kimber, they sent me a return label. They had it over 6wks, they rebarreled it, included 2 targets they shot and wrote down the ammo they used both Sub-MOA. I took it out today with a load I had thrown together and shot @ 1.5 4shot at 100yds. I can work with that. I really like the way this rifle fits me, the DBM seems to latch in very secure, and it is really light, all for +/-$750. Not sure what to think, the CS was good, but with a house full of rifles, I have never had to send one back...the best CS is the one you don't have to use...
