One of the survivors of my safe purge of the last year or so. SC gun FW .257 Roberts, has had a total of 60 rounds down the tube so far. First time I tried it was with factory Remington 117's. Seemed to shoot them pretty well, ran 40 rounds down the tube(mainly because I couldn't find any reasonably priced brass). Back in the safe for another year and a half...got it out today, just to chrony some handloads.

Loaded up some 117gr Interlocks over 47.5gr of 7828ssc.(loaded 10 rounds just to try it) 10 rounds averaged 2777fps WITH ONLY 12 FPS spread high to low(2772-2784). Since I was shooting in Dad's pasture instead of a regular range, I can say with confidence that this load is at least minute of Pepsi can @ 75 yards or so..

Trigger is even pretty decent out of the box, probably not going to bump my 8mm out of the #1 slot any time soon, but I'm really digging this rifle.

It's a sweet rifle. Mine consisently puts 120gr Deep Curls into very small groups at 2900 ish.

Very nice, Tim. I have an old Ruger 77 tang safety that shoots way better than I do with 100 gr TTSX over Ramshot Hunter at 3,009 fps. Gotta love the ‘Bob! Happy Trails

While this maybe true (assuming you didn’t spend it on something else - unless it was hunting trips) what’s the fun in that? laugh

I have owned several M/70 .257 Roberts over the years, my current one is a pre'64 Featherweight whose previous owner had rebarreled to .257, currently it sits in a Paul Jaeger custom stock with engraved bottom metal. It will be the rifle I take with me on my deer hunt this fall.

That 117 gn. Interlock shoots very very well. Kills deer very well too.

a Featherweight in 257 Roberts certainly wouldn't see life as a safe queen at my house...

Never understood why Winchester didn't offer .257 Roberts in the pre'64 FW, it is the epitome of what a deer rifle should be in my opinion. Whoever had the barrel installed on mine also had the trigger tuned, the rifle is a pleasure to shoot.

The 257 Bob is an EPIC piece of fhuqking schit. Doubly so with 117gr Ping Pong Balls.

A 18" .378" boltfaced 270,squirting 108 ELD's at 2550fps,absolutely fhuqking thrashes it. That besides offering much less recoil, more rounds in the belly, far less noise, much cheaper to shoot and a fhuqk of a LOT more fun to boot...if only for starters. That while adding to the terminal effects equation and burning less than 27grs of powder in the process. Hint.

Far left of frame, with a 6BR and 6 Grendel next down the line...all of which CRUSH said Bob. 243Win 5th from left of frame, betwixt 6 Kreedmire and 243 Aye-Eye. Re-hint..

Though in fairness,a 20" BR is no slouch.

Though I own a Grendel and have owned a bunch of different rifles and have read deeply on the subject I have no need of or have ever seen a .378 diameter based 270. Beyond that inside 350 yards the 257 is better than any rounds BS has listed and even farther if the Roberts is loaded with it's more streamlined bullets. This infatuation with skinny bullets and what they might be able to do way out there is odd, especially if your considering match styles without much weight impacting at less than 2000 fps.
