Anyone have any intel on these bullets? They are advertised as "duty" or "self protection" bullets. But they are offered in 6.5/120 and 140gr; 308/150 and 168gr.
My understanding is that they are the same technology as the Fusion and Deep Curls. Just wondering how they would perform on deer.

I have used the 90gr gold dots out of a 6.8spc to take coyote, mule deer, antelope, and have seen one elk taken with the bullet.
The 90gr gold dot out of my rifle was going right at 2800 FPS. The furthest animal shot was at 250 yards.
Other than one coyote and a high shoulder shot on a mule deer doe at about 60 yards, none of the bullets exited. In the 6.8 it has a pretty low sectional density and the bullet mushrooms widely, even at low velocities, which is probably why it’s usually stopped in the animal.
Terminal performance wise, I haven’t been very impressed, at least in the 6.8. The bullet retains most of its weight and mushrooms very wide, but as mentioned above, does not have substantial penetration.
I’n my experience, it’s a slow killer with behind the shoulder shots, about like a monolithic bulllet, but without the bone crunching penetration.

In .223 Rem the bullets are great. I'd imagine they are the same in other calibers. I have used them on about 40 hogs this year - three in the last week... it will put their dick in the dirt. It's all I deer hunt with for short range stuff (less than 250 yards). the 64gr Gold Dot Soft Point are really great bullets. REALLY Great bullets.

Do you buy the 64 grainers as components or factory ammo?

Do you know what twist rate your rifle has, or what twist is needed for the 62gr? thanks

Have used Speer GD’s and Federal Fusions (same/same) extensively. They work very well generally, but are designed for certain tasks that may not match what every person wants for deer, etc. aka- the above 6.8 SPC.
southtexas,
The 62gr works fine from a 1-9” twist and faster. Haven’t shot them from anything slower.

Took down a 354 lb Boar in Oklahoma with the 6.8 90gr gold dots. Quarter away shot behind the shoulder and lodged in the Grissle Plate on the other side.

I've purchased the 75 gr GD in their loaded ammunition. I haven't shot anything with it yet other than targets in my Bushmaster. It's a 1-9" twist and shoots them consistently into a 1" group. I took several boxes of the factory Speer GD ammunition to the range yesterday for testing. I had the 55 gr, 62 gr and 75 gr fodder. As the bullet weight got heavier the group size decreased. I already had it sighted in with the 75 gr. but wanted to shoot for groups with the other bullet weights to see what happened.
Now I just need a hog to step out.

Good to know..I bought 1000 55 Grain Gold Dots for the .223 and 223AIs...and the rifles LOVE them. Shoot really good..just haven't used them on game yet. Tried the 90 grainers in my 6.8 and they didnt shoot well in my rifle, so I quit them...

FWIW, I emailed Speer and asked if the 6.5. 277 and 308 cal bullets would be suitable for deer hunting, since their literature mentions only Duty". The answer was definitely affirmative. Then I asked if it was likely that additional bullets would become available, and got another affirmative answer..

I ordered a bunch of 55 gr., 62 gr, 64 gr, and 75 grain ammo before finally settling on the 75 gr fodder. It shoots 1 MOA in my Bushmaster. Now I wish I could just find the Gold Dot rifle bullets as components. I ordered 5 more boxes of the 75 gr. Gold Dot ammo from www.outdoorlimited.comAnd I just found where some 55 gr. Gold Dots are available as components. Now its time to start loading them for my CZ 527
