I shall have to give that a try.
IMO it’s the best way to clean a stuck cast iron or carbon skillet. I generally use water or beer. True but use water and drink the beer if you're just cleaning.

As an alternative to white wine I keep a bottle of dry vermouth on hand for deglazing as well.

Yup I deglazed a skilled last night with a cup of tequila after browning the ground beef for the wife’s taco salad. Reserved liquid and mixed back into beef after it was done simmering with her own taco season mix in her enameled dutch oven.

I don't really drink wine. We buy some red to make saurbraten, stick the bottle in the fridge then. Anyway, if it's handy, I will use it to deglaze, or just to add liquid for beef gravy. Just for a tasty change.

FG, followeed your lead and made this a couple nights ago in my $30 Aldi Dutch Oven. Mighty tasty and plenty of left overs. Some scratch made crusty Italian bread from my friends' restaurant sealed the deal.

Denny, I do buy their meat from time to time, especially when it's on sale. Their ribeyes, ny strips, tbones, chuck roasts are pre-trimmed and are typically good cuts. If it's not on sale, they're not competing with the spanish markets here. But, the quality is usually better. Their 80/20 ground beef price runs about $2.99/lb, which is better than almost everywhere else here and the quality is good. I buy the ground beef frequently.
I picked up 5 lbs of chicken drumsticks for $3 last night, using a $2 off/pack coupon. That's only slightly higher than the current sale price at Sedano's of $.49/lb, but you'd have to buy 10 lbs there.
You can check their flyers online before you go. Happy Hunting.

Hopping John. It's supposed to be a side dish but I put Collards in mine and make a meal out of it. It ain't pretty but it's delicious.....I love the stuff. It's better the second night too which is a good thing cause I'll be eating it for a few days.

If you're going to use collards look for either Glory brand Southern Style or Sylvias. Don't bother making your own collards because you can't match either one. I add one 14.5 oz can to half of a batch of this recipe. http://www.geniuskitchen.com/recipe/hoppin-john-rice-and-black-eyed-peas-134205http://www.gloryfoods.com/collard-greens/http://www.sylviassoulfood.com/CollardGreens.htmlPS.....if you want to broaden your horizons Fried Egg Plant goes good with this.

Hood canal bounty....
Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Dan Gable I keep my circle small, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.
Ain’t easy havin pals.

So canned versus cooking down mine own, check. Quality bacon, check. Deep fried is about the only way I can eat egg plant now. My half Italian mother wore me out on it as a kid,
