I dig shooting my big bore 270,000 Winchester.
The long term effects of recoil are very apparent. I typed really slow so you can keep up. Thank you for slow typing your thoughts....270 isn’t a Boomer. ..It’s a gay cartridge/caliber. Just ask Doggystyle. 😃😎

What is wrong with the levers? My "Rhino Blaster" handloads for my Marlin .45-70 are capable of taking down anything that walks, anywhere on this rock. 460g of hardcast at 1812fps. My hunting loads, 300-350g of jacketed lead at around 2180-2200fps get the job done out to 300 yards.
Yote Killer...There is absolutely nothing wrong with the lever action big dawgs...I have a bro who timber hunts with his super expensive Winchester 71 in 348...Just wait. Lever lovers will find you soon.😎

Big boomers? That's as much a perspective as anything else. BOOM may be bigger from a 300 Ultra mag then it is from a 308, but they both fore the same size bullets as a rule. So what constitutes "big"? These are: 4 bore being fired with a "light charge" of powder (no....... I am not kidding) 4 bore in action by Steve Zihn, on Flickr And the muzzle of a 2 bore. If loaded with to the same velocity as a 4 bore the recoil would be 4X as heavy. (no one is stupid enough to do that) 2 Bore muzzle by Steve Zihn, on Flickr

I've been killing stuff since I was a wee yonker. In only two instances do I remember recoil. Once was with my 338 RUM Sendero before i had it 'Braked" Poked a doe at a lazered 590 yds. Turned the magnification up and scooted up a skosh to much on the stock. When I came to, and wiped the blood out of my eyes I could see the doe, tits up.
The second was two years ago on the 24 hourcampfire hog hunt. I was shooting my 9.3 x74R at the bench on a crummy rest. Split my haid wide open, Glad it was a rubber eye box vs. steel.
That 4 bore and 2 bore look like "detatched retina/dislocated shoulder" territory!
ya!

My foray into the long range boomer arena was a 338/300 Ultra, which is equal to a 338LM in performance.
Mine ran 300's at 2820, and stayed super to a bit over 2K.
Got tired of the blast and concussion, so I sold it to build the 7x300WM, which I sold to build the 6.5 PRC......
Bat, McMillan, Rock, Nightforce, etc......[URL=http://s256.photobucket.com/user/alfbucket/media/003_zpsf4e31a0e.jpg.html] aalf, to the rescue...It only took “6 Spammers” before I hit “pay dirt”. Thanks buddy...I would shoot my 300 Weatherby several times a year, running anywhere from 10-12 boxes through it at distances. It’s on its second barrel right now, a Lilja, which I like very much. Went with a pussy break on this barrel for my tender shoulder and jerk- flinch issue..😂😎

Did you notice the drift in your pay dirt? The poster, who knows more than a little bit about shooting, grew tired of the blast and concussion and put together a rifle in a lighter cartridge, and then again in a lighter cartridge yet.

Beaver10,
"Creedy"?
At least nobody, so far as I know, has called a Nightforce a "Nighty." Like a McCreedy...You will soon be able to order them up at McDonald’s 😃 Nighty, not as catchy...MD, you write books and articles..How about what you own and shoot in the magnum realm. 😎

It's right in there with "What grain bullet?" and "I seen it." Math, I got no comeback ....Your post is funny...Seriously, funny...😂🤣 Now, do you own and shoot a magnum for hunting or do you,16, Dog, really have nothing in your safes that qualify? 😎

I still have a 338 Win. mag, 300 Wby. mag, 300 Win. mag and a 7mm Wby. mag, but I got over the "need" for all that.

Anyone shooting the Hornady 270 ELD-X in a 338 Win?
How's that working out?
I suspect recoil is unpleasant, but Hornady shows:
.757 (G1) .381 (G7) Dave, one of our hunting pards shot a Winchester, I think an XTR in 338 win. He used 200gr Federal shelf ammo. He retired it last year. 2018 he’s hunting a Weatherby MarkV in 300wby for elk...Shooting box 180gr NAB’s. I did toy with the idea of hunting a 338 Ultra once upon a time...But, I already owned a couple of elk crushers that I know very well. 😎

Don't know if these will qualify as "big boomers", but hold em' wrong and you will get a serious case of scope eye........ ask me how I know! 338 RUM 338 Lapua 338-378 KT 35 Whelen Remington 673 Guide Gun, 350 Rem. Mag Ah, yeah.....Those qualify! Nice rifles. Geed, is there anything you don’t own and shoot? If you don’t have kids...I call “First Dibs” on your firearms. 😀😎

Geed, you have any issue with your Sako fiberstock on your 338 Lapua? Is it still in the original Sako stock? I couldn’t tell...I’ve seen pictures of cracks and fissures across the pistol grip on several Sako’s in heavy calibers. 😎

I have shot .338/378, .338 WM, and .338-06. I kept a .338 WM of some sort for years. Then I noticed that although I hauled them to hunting camp, they never got to hunt in favor of the standard rifle of the day. They were lighter and handier than the magnums. Hunting the foothills on foot, it makes a difference. Thus the .338-06 which I used exclusively for everything for several years. Then I noticed that there was not much that the 200 Speer could not handle. I guess that was the first clue that I had been using more gun than was required. The .308 ot something smaller does everything I need to do.
I Played with several .375s and .45-70s. At about age 70, I started shipping the belted magnums. The last one left five years ago. Even my soft recoiling BAR has become my favorite .30-06.
I don't need any more big boomers.....well almost. I do still have a 9.3x62. I'm not sure why?
Jack I sold off a Marlin in 444 mag for a Browning Bar MK3 in 300 wsm for my timber rifle...I bought it barely used. It’s the older MK series with a tactical-cool camo paint job and muzzy break...It’s light, which is a plus when hunting coastal timber. The original owner had a pussy break installed on it...I haven’t sighted it in with the 200gr Federal Edge TLR cartridges yet...they’re supposed to open up at close yardage. 😎
