Started a 5-miler yesterday, battling back spasms. About 1.5 miles in my buddy texted that they were headed to a winery near us. Back was not really loosening up as we walked...... Hit the abort button and headed to the winery; I mean it was only prudent. So 3 miles logged.
We are backpacking the Lost Coast next weekend and I gotta get my back as right as possible. Pain I can handle; spasms that make my knees buckle are a problem. Ugh. If it ain't one damn thing.....
Jackson...... plenty of places to argue and fight on the Campfire... I would know... but not here please.......

You ever tried a hard foam roller for your back? Works wonders for mine. The harder the better though.

Thanks. I've been blessed with minimal back issues to date, and what I've had, has been generally addressable via a certain magic stretch a dirty hippie showed me many years ago. Dude flopped right down on the ground and demonstarated it, and it was as goofy looking as it sounds. But what a favor he did me!
Anyway- I'll maybe cautiously try the roller today. Laying low and gonna watch NBA, which is about as un-me as it gets on a nice spring day... but I gotta get this fixed before Friday.

That would be me, Mr Natural.
Except I would have recommended some naked hippie chick to press up against his back and he wouldn’t be having issues today.

Well done. That’s how you kick ass. 😉 ^^^^^^^this. Ed T, Old Yvon has been leading from the front since I was a kid, you weren't a mountain guy if you didn't have a wall hammer, a bamboo shaft piolet and a Forrest haul bag in your van. And a copy of Climbing Ice and the classic catalog on clean climbing. mike r

In the late 80's I worked at an REI-esque outdoor store in Eugene (Mckenzie Outfitters). At that time it was comparable in size and scope to an REI. Anyway, I procured several items of Chouinard-branded gear.... still have the ice-climbing gloves; I use them for skiing on really snotty days. Yvon is a badass. Patagonia gear is usually excellent too.

46 mile bike race yesterday morning, in which I did not place last in my division.
Then a ~17 mile crit race in the afternoon. I think I'm taking today off.

That's nuts. I did 40 minutes on the stationary bike and then hit the leg press machine that shut me down the other day. Managed to get up to 2/3 of the weight I did before surgery without cratering, that's progress.

Stairmaster: 20min
TNation: Squats, Chin-ups, Leg extensions,
Extras: Calf raises, rollouts, barbell curls, body weight squats.
Figured I needed some class, so I decided to sign up for one. They showed me one in progress and Smoke was the guest trainer doing glute demonstrations. He definitely was into showing his glutes. Let's say he was a little too enthusiastic to the point it was strange, so I declined. But to his credit the blue hairs were paying attention.

speaking of showing glutes I’ve had this Mountain Hardwear kilt in my closet for almost two years, my wife encouraged me to wear at the race on Saturday- I chickened out, BUT at the post race pizza/beer party I said the he’ll with it and wore it!

I would need at least a knee-length kilt to stay legal.

I would need at least a knee-length kilt to stay legal. Nothing special until they require CCW. The permitting here is rediculous.
