Am I the only one that thinks that the 24" tube feels and looks out of wack on a lever gun? Wish they had a 22" tube!

Personally, if you're gonna put that long of a bbl on it, I'd prefer to see a full-length mag tube under it. It would look better, and why not add capacity when/if you can?

If they were not that expensive I would buy one and cut it to 21"

Someone did just that and sold it on arf dot com about a month ago. Can no longer find the listing, but it was sweet.

I do somewhat agree with you. Why do so many shooter/hunters consider the Winchester model 64 a "Classic" with its long 24-inch barrel and slimmer stocks and the Marlin equivalent 336-A or XLR model or "Poor Man's" Winchester Model 64 a lesser quality stepchild? I find the 50's production longer barreled 50's production 336-A models seem to balance better like a long barreled sporting clay gun as the barrel profile is more tapered than the 336-A limited run production models made in the 70's or the XLR models.

I have a 1953 production 336-A in .35 Rem that is a shooter yet wasted too many bullets on a 1973 336-A in 30-30 I never warmed up.... to find an accurate load. If you want an extremely accurate and superbly balanced 336 begin your search for a 1960's Genfield model with the 2/3 magazine. Renegade50 has one he bought last year. and I have one as well....both rifles are sub-MOA with little effort.

The 1960 Glenfield models are the "sleepers" on the Marlin 336's

Hmmmm, I have one of these. Cutting the barrel down closer to the tube sounds appealing. Who would be the person to send it to and have that done?

i don't like the looks of the 24" barrels on the marlins but they handle and point really nice.

Transistion between the 336 and Glenfield 30 series
5930 made in 64 and 65
Redid the wood
Had metal cerracoated
Added a Williams peep with a .050 aperture
Installed and modified a .570 front site
Floated forearm and forearm cap per doc encore advice
Left trigger and loading gate and gate screw original finish
Along with the 4 scope base hole screws and the hammer.

Let a lot of bucks walk last year with it
Gotta bust it's cherry on a 8 outside of its ears
at a minimum this year

Mod 70 ot6 stayed home last year
Gonna stay home again until the 36g is devirginized for me.

This gun is very accurate with the leverevolution ammo



Now I wanta aquire either a .35 half tube or a .444

Condition more towards 95%
He has recently had it for 900

throw the 800 at him again and see if he says yes in a couple of weeks.

I knew you be along with a great picture of your model 36. If you luck out to buy the Marlin .444 Seafire has a nice "woods load" that doesn't chatter your teeth or bruise your shoulder using the Hornady .430
300 grain bullet at about 1,800 fps. More than enough bullet and powder for Tenn Whitetails.

Years ago I bought a 35XLR when the distributors were blowing them out at cost. I wound up chopping it to 18.5" to build my own version of the 336SS-LTD. Although I never cared for the long 24" barrel I would be hesitant to chop another XLR because the prices have gone up so much.
