A lot of important events in my life happened after I turned 40.

Life began at 16. Having extra money began at 40. So did aches and pains.

Damn, was married for 17 years and then went through a divorce at 45 - no kids or responsibilities prior to that. Now at 57, I'm remarried and have a couple of step-daughters and 2 grandsons that are my world. We've been struggling with my older step-daughter and mother of my grandsons for the past 4 years - she's been running with a POS convicted felon and she's now a meth addict. We've been dealing with her in and out of rehab for the past year, and helping the boys' Dad raise them. She's been living in my house on and off and fugging us over for the past 6 months and we just took her back to rehab yesterday. We're all in agreement she'll never set foot in our house again and I'm currently trying to sort out our part in raising 2 boys that mean more to me than anything (as I try to think about retirement some day...)

Not sure at what age life begins and what the near future holds, but chit just got real for us and we don't sleep much these days...

Along about then you realize that you probably have fewer years ahead of you than behind. When you hit 60, it really starts to hit home.

Yep.

Lately I've been thinking that sooner rather than later another 10 years will fly by and I'll be 50.

There has got to be more to life than work and I don't want to die wishing I'd had more fun.

But at the same time I don't want to die broke.

I retired at Forty but even then I agreed with the phrase:

The best year of my life, was 10. Before that, I was not totally cognizant. After that, testosterone began to kick in. Been a constant series of self laid traps, since then.

I think that the standard reasoning is that you're supposed to have everything all planned out and set in stone by the time you reach 40. For some people, that age could be as early as their 20's, and for others, they'll never reach it.

I do believe that most people are too concerned with having a good time in their 20's and 30's, and by the time they reach 40, they can begin to see what life is really all about. Life is a learning experience, and you're never too young or too old to learn something new. That old saying that age is only a number must have been concocted by a young person, because when you hit the "twilight years", you know it ain't true.

Nope, I'm way past that and still waiting. Haven't you heard 60 is the new 40. That means it now takes you to age 60 to get where our parents were at 40. At least that's my experience.
