Any body use a Shilen barrel on their 10/22? How is accuracy?
And what’s best way to get an excellent trigger pull on a 10/22?

For the $$ ,you really should give Green Mountain a go. In my experience they are the full equal of the Shilens at a fraction of the price. GM makes damn good barrels. Always has.
I would also choose a Fedderson over a Shilen as well.

I've got a Shilen Varmint barrel on my 77/22. Shoots standard velocity ammo good. Doesn't like the high velocity stuff. Volquartsen has a kit that will reduce the pull to about 2 lbs. Timney may have one for the 10/22, not sure.

+1 on the Green Mountain barrel. Especially if you're on a budget. Or want to spend more of your budget on a trigger, etc

Dale: Send your trigger assembly to Brimstone Gunsmithing. I had the Tier 3 done. 10 day turnaround. Cost $50. 2.5# pull with no creep. Before you replace the barrel try fire lapping it. It will probably cut your groups in half.

I built my dad a Ruger 10/22 using a Shilen barrel, and it shoots standard velocity CCI really well. We don't buy much any other brand, so can't comment about the high velocity stuff. It has been a very good barrel, and I'd buy one again. As for trigger stuff, I usually just change out spring and get the Volquartsen HP action kit. Has worked well for my last 5 builds for a 10/22. Safe shooting!

Haven't used a Shilen or GM barrel, but I'm happy with my Kidd barrel My Volquartsen barrel on another 10/22 l does just as well. I just replace trigger parts with Volquartsen or Kidd parts (hammer, sear and springs).

For trigger, I messed with swapping parts and it was sort of ok but eventually I decided to get a replacement assembly. I went with Jard's 1 pound option. I can't say whether mine is typical or not but it is friggin' fantastic. It's really hard to like a 2.5 pound trigger after spending time with a 1 pound trigger .. at least for me. YMMV of course.
Barrels .. depends on what you want to do with the gun. For a bench gun / one to use from a rest, heavy steel barrels make sense. My 10/22 builds have focused on portable accuracy. To that end I've been using the 16-17 inch carbon-fiber wrapped .920 diameter barrels from Volquartsen and Magnum Research. I can't tell any difference in accuracy. The Volquartsen barrel cost a little more but has a cantilever mount. I use the Magnum Research Barrels with Talley ring-mounts. Balances. I may have this backwards, but one or the other chambered Stingers well, the other really didn't. I think it was the Volquartsen barrel that did .. but I may be wrong. My next build (tomorrow?) will be about the same but use a Tactical Solutions aluminum sleeved barrel rather than fiber wrapped. I'm curious how it does compared to the others in the past.

RyanTX, A friend built a 10/22 and put a Kidd barrel on it with a Volquartsen action kit and trigger. It's a mighty accurate .22. That's the only Kidd barrel I've ever had any dealings with.
