I call BS on all of this. I run a trade deficit with my grocery store I’m not complaining.
Taxing the American people to remedy trade deficits is stupid. That’s all that tariffs are.

No, they both sucked. You don't run a trade deficit with the grocery store, because you haven't starved. Unless, your health is not worth what you are spending to keep it. Now keep in mind most of the rest of the world spends a much higher percent of their wealth on food. Also, most of the rest of the world would be very happy to have access to the varieties of food at the prices you have access to, to the point of killing for that ability. Probably about half the world would kill to go dumpster diving here everyday. I could go on, but let's consider his assertion that you have a massive trade surplus with your employer. You don't. He can only afford to pay you what you are worth, but very likely pays you less than you are worth, since this is a capitalistic country and everyone wants to make a profit. Employees are the vehicle companies make their profit from. If you're a gov employee, then you're in a socialist relationship doing the comrade thing.
Trump exaggerated a bit on our trade deficit with Canada. There is one, but it's been shrinking. I'm no fan of Trudeau, though, and happy to have The Donald give him some grief.
