Nope, don't have a practical use for one and am unwilling to pay the price in extra powder, recoil and blast for no reason.

Simply no need for them around here. There are some long shot possibilities on some of the VA public land my son hunts, but from his experiences, the deer usually move through them like greyhounds. The lone deer I shot with a 7mm Rem at about 75 yards didn't die any quicker than deer hit with my usual .270s, .308s, etc. These days, I'm going lighter, both rifle and cartridge.

One 7 Mag, just because it's a CRF Model 70 and I don't sell CRF Model 70's.

My only magnum is a non-magnum

9.3x62.......and with 286 grn full presure loads it's plenty when it comes to recoil

It's no fun to shoot for long sessions

if you can handle a little more recoil and a little more noise you probably use and shoot a magnum as I do, reason we do>> more power /more speed its just a little extra edge and more distance you can shoot easier.

I've had many, the only one left is a 44 Magnum.

Never had a magnum or a desire for one. Have shot 300 WM a fair amount though, enough to know that I didn't really enjoy it.

Well, I don't see the word magnum after the 28 Nosler (a recently acquired round) or the magnum word after my 375 Ruger either.......The other two? Well?? LOL....LOL

I've had a 257, 7mm, 300, 308 Norma, and 338. Never hunted with one though. I took the 7mm along on a moose hunt as a back up gun but never got a chance to use it. I have hunted with pistol caliber magnums.

Most magnums, are magnums in name only! An example, a 30-06 Springfield is very comparable to a 375 H&H “Magnum.....when powder capacity to bore diameter is considered. Consequently, very similar ballistics ( muzzle velocity, trajectory, etc.). I’m sure that many similarities could be found between other “standard” cartridges and “magnum” cartridges! memtb

I guess I'm one of the few going a little the other way. Started hunting with a 30-06 almost 25 years ago, gone through middling cartridges like the 6.5x55 Swede and 8x57 Mauser as well as 7-08 and 308, not to mention lever gun cartridges like 32-40 38-55 too but they are all gone now and truth be told, not at all missed. Alongside my faithful Tikka 30-06 my 243 and my 30-30 remain but I think I am ready to now want to try a magnum cartridge. I've settled on Remington's classic, the Magnificent Seven. I figure if I want 7-08 /7mm Mauser power, I can easily dial the Magnum down a bit but it's nice to have an extra gear or two available when i want it. I mean all you really need to go get your groceries is a 1985 Toyota Tercel but it is more enjoyable to take the Mustang out for a ride even if it burns a little more gas.

I had a 338 WinMag for a couple years, but moved it along.

My most powerful chamberings are 30-06 and 45-70.

The biggest cartridge I have is the 308 Winchester magnum, or in other words... a 30-06. Use a 200 grain bullet at 2500-2600 FPS, and it is all I need if I want “big.” Can load it down to 30-30, 300 Savage or 308 Win levels.

Also use 308 Win Tikka T3 and 30-30 Marlin 336a.

Some very interesting answers, views, and perceptions. As a lifelong (since 14 years old) handloader....I want the largest. flattest shooting, popular caliber that I can shot well. Using the .375 H&H I mentioned earlier, I can shoot it at maximum pressures/power, or download it with cast bullets, equaling (or lighter than) the old 38-55 Winchester.
You can always load down, you are very limited to how much.....you can load up! As always JMH and accurate opinion! 😉 memtb

I have 2 magnum rifles left plus my 357 and 44 magnum handguns.

I have owned a lot of them over the years but the only 2 I still have are my 375H&H and my 300 H&H.

Keep in mind that "magnum" is more of a sales pitch then a measurement of power. Neither of the H&H cartridges above was called "magnum" when they were first introduced. The 375 H&H was called the "375H&H Magnum" about 2 years after it hit the market (so I am told) and the 300 was called the Super 30 at first.

I have a 404 that is not named "Magnum" and it's more powerful then my 375, and I also own three 9.3MM rifles that are all quite powerful, none of which have magnum in their name.

Nothing wrong with most magnums as a class, but nothing magic about them either.

My only "magnum" is a 350 RemMag, which is essentially a short action 35 Whelen, so I haven't gone very far into the magnum world.

On the other hand, among 10 centerfire rifles I only have one long action cartridge, a 280 Rem, so which is the oddball - the lone magnum or the lone long action?

My favorite was the 340 Weatherby but it had limited usefulness, even out west, since I bowhunted elk at the time. Only one I can think of I have at the moment is a very early Savage 110 in 7mm Mag.

I'll take just a couple magnums over 15 non-magnums.

.240 Wby and .308 Norma if I had my time again.
