as the very bare minimum for a 'custom' rifle, i ordered an e.r. shaw barrel for my remington 700 .270 bought on the classifieds here. 22 inches, rem700 sporter dupe contour, recessed crown, 10 twist chrome moly. would have done 9 twist if they had it available.
going to put it on the adl with nice walnut stock and go kill stuff.
any of you guys use er shaw before

I have three Shaw barrels, the first is a 1/8twist 22/250 and it is very accurate, best it has done is 1/4" 3 shot groups, averages less than 1/2 "
The other is an 1/8 twist 223 A.I. and I am still working on developing loads for it, seems kinda fussy, most loads around an inch or less, a few loads around 1/2"
My third barrel is a 338-06 on the Turk Mauser. Aperture sights , seems to shoot well.
I build a 6.5 creed for a friend on a Savage with a Shaw 1/8 twist heavy barrel and that thing shot everything into 1/2" amazing barrel.
I do Dyna bore coat all my Shaw's before I shoot them so cant comment on fouling?

Dad's "holy jaysus...this thing SHOOTS!!"1950 FN military 30-06 wears a mid-'80's Shaw. MOA for five shot groups is stupid kinds of easy. I've heard that the barrels have improved since the Reagan administration, so take this information FWIW...

An old gunsmith friend of mine swore by E.R. Shaw barrels and highly recommended them to me. I have an E.R. Shaw rifle barrel on my 12 ga. slug gun and it is very accurate.

Did you rebarrel a Remington 270 with the same Shaw barrel contour in 270?

What do you hope to gain from the Shaw barrel over the factory?

Okay, now I get it. I thought you were swapping one 270 barrel for another.

My first Shaw order took the advertised 6 weeks. The second order took longer, cant remember exactly how long? called them and they tracked it down for me and told me the fluting machine was down causing delays. The customer service was good.

I have two of them on Savage actions. The one is in 250 Savage. It is a 26" barrel with 1:10" twist. I am shooting 117 gr round noses through it that are left over from experiments with some Savage 99s. A near max load of Reloader 15 and using book COL I am getting around an inch with the first six rounds fired. I didn't shoot more as I realized I forgot to put the extractor back in after checking headspace. 😩
The other is in 358 win. The barrel is 20" but I forget the twist rate. It is standard twist and nothing special. The barrel is a bit thicker than normal and I have to open up the barrel channel on the factory stock soon. I did slip the barreled action into a different stock which I could shoot as a single shot. My standard bear load of a 250 gr Hornady over a max charge of H322 went into an inch and a half for five 3 round groups. That is not quite as good as the BLR will shoot but for an ad hoc arrangement I am satisfied. Hopefully, the factory stock will shoot better than that. Even if it doesn't, that is more than adequate accuracy for bears over bait.

I have two Shaw barrels on Savage Axis rifles. One is a 250 Savage and the other is a 257 Roberts. Both are excellent - fine accuracy. I recommend them highly.

I’d watch GB & fleabay as well as post a “WTB” here for a take off in 25-06 or Bob. Just about guaranteed to be faster & damned certain to be less expensive.
Nothing at all wrong w/ Shaw I’ve had good results but if timing & cost are significant factors...
