Wanting to know what parts are interchangeable between the two.

Planning on building a lighter(7.5 lbs or less) bolt gun and have a couple Husqvarna 640 commercial FN actions I could use but have been liking the slightly slimmer/lighter Husky 1640 action. I haven't handled a 1640 so don't know whether bolt parts are compatible with a standard 98. Since after market firing pins and springs for the 98 are plentiful, and also offer lighter/faster examples for shorter lock time, having this option for the 1640 would nice. Any here tried swapping parts between the two?

I can help here, I have a husky 1640 with m98 bolt parts. I had trouble with thr 1640 safety engaging under recoil, and i just didnt like those little sheet metal parts, so i swapped them with an FN mauser. The bolt shroud/safety, and cocking piece are a straight swap (through the 1640 cocking piece wouldn't fit my m98 firing pin). I have read firing pins interchange, but have not personally tried it. Bolt bodies will NOT interchange.

There is a lot of variation in Mauser parts, so your experience may differ.

Also, if you use an m98 bolt shoud with a safety, you can use any aftermarket trigger meant for an m98. The only downside is a small gap on the left side of the tang where the original safety went.

M98 bottom metal can be adapted to a 1640, but requires metal fitting, and has a different stock footprint than the OEM.

I'll probably buy a 1640 regardless. Having a different husky around, whether the parts interchange or not is, isn't a bad problem to have.

Have recently acquired several 1640 actions(3x 30-06 and 1x 6.5), missing the bolts. Does anyone has any ideas as to what bolt bodies might swap into a 1600/1640?

Also, throwing up a flare looking for anyone who has 1640 Complete Bolts or Bolt Bodies, that I can build up for these actions?

Unfortunately, the 1640 bolt is proprietary. There are no other bolts that will interchange. Mauser bolts WILL NOT fit.

The last time that I was in the back room there were dozens of boxes full of Husqvarna rifle parts, probably the biggest pile loose parts in North America.

Unfortunately, yes, but they said the do not sell parts! Not surprising though; maybe if I send them my actions they will fit up bolts and then sell them to me?

This is one of those situations where it is less expensive to buy a complete rifle than it is to piece one together.

I had a barreled receiver years ago and searched for darn near two years before finding a bolt. Got the bolt then someone else posted they needed one. I sold them the bolt and bought a complete 1640 instead.
