And that's what's nice about the Creedmoors. Should anyone need to fill a niche, they are a popular option. And that's what having rifles is all about. They are collectibles, and fun to own, but it's nice for them to be useful as well.

LGS has a Ruger American Predator, green plastic stock, in 6.5 Creed that has been languishing on the shelf for a long time. I am tempted but he wants over $425 for it, which seems a tad high for a Ruger with one mag and no rings...

and did i hear some anecdotal notes that the magazines are sometimes finicky on feeding?

My 6.5 Predator's magazine works perfectly, as have the magazines in .243 and .308 RAR's. I suspect case-shape plays some part; the tapered .22-250 case doesn't feed quite as well as the straighter .243, 6.5 Creed and .308 cases when I try the same magazines in various Americans.

thanks for that feedback. every time i walk into the shop i hear that rifle calling my name. i am afraid of how accurately it might shoot, putting everything else i own to shame. and lets face it, the 6.5 Creed is so underpowered for Virginia!!

I like Dennis, but when he shared his input with Emary for a new cartridge, I thought; "What for?" It's ground already well covered by the 260 and the 6.5x47. When I wanted to downsize a bit, I built a 260 thinking it was the better established and that I could make my own brass out of plentiful 308 in a pinch. I got that one wrong. The 6.5 Creedmoor is amazingly ubiquitous in chamberings and ammo and I have a hard time finding factory 260 these days. Performance wise, I think it's a toss up. But the practicalities of finding rifles and ammo definitely favor the Creedmoor.

I finally broke down and bought a 6.5 Creedmoor, it is a 257 Roberts...

Even though I have a Swede and a 6.5-06 in Rem 700 actions, I finally gave in to the calling of the 6.5 Creedmoor at my bud's suggestion after he bought one in a TC Compass this spring. I found an identical one in LGS for $375 new. Bought 200 rounds of factory Hornady ammo on a special at another LGS. Ammo is 140 gr HP BT Hornady ammo in 200 round package. Put a Leupold scope I already had on it and boresighted the combo.Attached my old short Harris swivel bipod for a front rest, removed the rear swivel stud and put it on my old leather rear bag with a piece of wood under it to make it level. Got scope zeroed and used to shooting rifle by firing a total of 20 rounds. Then shot a five shot group at 100 yards off a steel table and above rest. Five shots went into 3/8". Did it again to make sure it was not a fluke and called it good. So far 30 shots down the tube with no cleaning or break in routine other than chamber and shoot. Kinda boring for a true rifle looney but maybe I am getting old. I frankly enjoyed the process(and results) more than I expected.

I think the major point is getting this kind of accuracy in an inexpensive, off the shelf rifle with relatively inexpensive and consistent factory ammo. I have not chronographed the rifle but expect it is between 2700 and 2800 with that load in the 22" threaded from the factory 5R rifled barrel. It seems like the TC Compass from Smith and Wesson is a sleeper that is not much written about. My bud's rifle gets similar results with his handloads but it took him many more shots to find the sweet spot.

Rifle is not going to win any traditional beauty contests but in terms of performance results and ease of use, I say it is a winner.

My Creed sure doesn't outrun my Swede...

I’ve had my scale jump but NOT that much. Mine has only jumped by 1 gr.

My Tikka in T3 6.5X55 with a 22" barrel gets higher velocity and is more accurate than my Tikka T3x 6.5 CM with a 24" barrel.The 6.5X55 was easy to get to shoot good,the 6.5CM I am having to do lots of experimenting to try get close to the accuracy and velocity I get from the Swede.The 6.5CM is not a slouch and most would be happy with how it shoots ,but!!!!!!

If pressures were equal, which one do you think would kick azz?....:

Interesting as the Creedmoor has that inherent accuracy reputation. But the Swede is no slouch and a very forgiving round to load. Most of my loads for the 6.5x55 consist of finding max and then maybe minor tweaking and I am done.

Shooting the 6.5 x 55, 260 and 6.5 x 57.. I may never know if the Creepmoor will ever out shoot them..

The 6.5s I have now, more than meet any needs I might ever have....

I look at the Creepmoor as the answer to a question that never needed asking....
