That is a beautiful animal. Like they say, the animal was not aware of the headstamp. I don't know why people are balled up about this stuff. You are absolutely correct. You point is right on....... Yep,I'm in a real pickle now. I have a super accurate, light weight ,all weather 270. It ticks me off because I really don't need anything else.

Agreed. That's a good place to be. Spend the new gun money on more hunts.

Understand the CM was designed to be shorter to better function thru an AR type action. I believe the creedmoor case is shorter so it can utilize longer bullets, which have a better BC, and still fit in a short action. I doubt it has anything to do with the AR action, since its OAL fits in an AR10 length action, not an AR15 (which would be a grendel). I could be wrong

I have heard that comment before about the 260 not being able to accommodate 140gr bullets. Here is a picture of my Savage 260 magazine with two 260 rounds with Sierra 140gr HPMK bullets seated way out , just barely seated in the case. They would normally be seated deeper. These rounds fit in my 260 magazine easily & don;t even begin to impose on the powder capacity of the case. This has been another fallacy of the 260 & 140gr bullets that seems to just get passed on . The 260 Rem will handle 140gr bullets with no issues. As long as the magazine will accommodate your preferred bullet you can throat it any way you wish. This is what competitive match shooters do. If you have a Rem 700 or Win70 rifle with a box magazine there is even more room. For my self with the advent of the homogeneous copper bullet like the Barnes I see no need for 140gr bullets. . The 6.5 120gr Barnes gives me complete penetration on elk now. What more can the 140gr deliver . If you are a long range competitive shooter the high BC 6.5 bullets would be an advantage but it would have to be extreme long range,. I have my own range on my land which is out to 500yds. I occasionally shoot out there & know my 260 with the 120gr Barnes is very capable at this range. I've shot there many times over the years. It works. In the field I refrain from such extreme long range shots. Always working to keep my shots in a range where I am confident of placing them accurately & ethically.

no Creedmoors here yet at my house. I have two 6.5x284 Norma`s both shoot lights out ,also have two 264 win.mag.s in pre 64 Winchesters I see no reason yet to shoot slower bullets ? I think maybe someday 26 Nosler would be nice to own ?

I have a real great .260, on a short Rem action. It handles the long bullets, but with really compacted charges. I run 129 Interlocks in it and they are great, out to my 530-yard max range, here at the house. Speaking of Savage, I had a learning moment yesterday. I was talking to a guy at Evolution Gun Works, because I saw a rail listed for a medium action. Unknown to me, Savage made some large, medium and small actions awhile back. Luckily, I found this out, as my old .308 is a medium action, and I was about to pull the trigger on a short rail. It may make it even better for a possible .260 re-barrel.

i'm holding out for a 30-06 Creedmoor. Recently acquired a 300 H&H Creedmoor and like it a lot... Something special about them 30 caliber Creedmoors... But my 280 Creedmoor works good too.

Those of you shooting factory Hornady 143's, what velocities are you getting out of a 23-24" barrel?

I was excited to chronograph my new 6.5 PRC this weekend. The factory Hornady 143s are going right at 3000 fps. I figure that's fast enough and recoil is about like a 270.

Good stuff ruraldoc. That's impressive for sure. I'm one of those that believes too much velocity can be a negative thing, as I've killed several big bucks well under 100 yards. Wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong though.

It's probably a Savage action with a big fat loudenboomer brake since he can't handle the recoil.... Pretty sure I saw him at the range last week. Every cease fire he bragged about his gun but couldn't hit steel very well...

I THINK I WILL NAME MY NEW CUSTOM 338 LAPUA = 338 BIG BOY CREEDMOOR, these Creedmoor guys want too talk long range ballistics ? what cartridge are using at 600 yards ? and is that the cartridge you will be using at 1000 yards ? I don`t really like to big of cartridge anymore, lately I have been using my 6 BR and some people shoot that well at 1000 yards too and have done very well too. good luck,Pete53 Makes perfect sense, given what Greg posted.
