i have a 28 Nosler on the way and am pondering bullets to use in it. My rifle has a 1:8 twist and is throated for the 195’s. The last owner states it shoots very well with both the 195 EOL’s and the 180 Eld-m.

In playing with Ballistic AE it appears that the 180 ELD-m beats the 195 EOL in velocity, energy, drop and drift.

It seems that most guys are using the 195’s in the 28N and I am sure there is a reason but I am having trouble finding that reason.

Help me out here guys, why the 195 EOL over the 180 Eld-m?

MallardAddict, what numbers are you using for BC(s)?

Nope I’m going with 139 IB per sharp things recommendation. He’s a real killer after all unlike you couch surfers.... 🙄

Both the 180’s and 195’s appear to shoot in the .2’s from pics I’ve been sent. Hopefully rifle arrives this week as bear opens here 08/01 and we have a few located that would be prime targets for this rifle.

180’s I’m using .393 g7 at 3140 FPS ( dope from previous owner)
195’s I’m using .387 g7 at 3050fps (also from previous owner)

My ballistic app shows that at least on paper the 180’s are superior so I was curious why everyone seems to prefer the 195’s.

Some people don't trust the ELD-M. My rifle shoots the 195EOL extremely well and I've always had great results on game with berger bullets. Hope to be able to use the 195 on an elk this season.

Correct, those bc’s were reportedly what he came up with from his DOPE corrections after calibrating chart to 800yds.

The rifle is set to arrive only days before our bear area opens so I’m trying to make a decision on where to start since the previous owner has loads for both bullets. Since both bullets shot well in CO I have no doubts they will shoot here in WA. Of course I will have to tweak the drops to my AO.

I’ve gone from the 195’s to the 180’s. I haven’t killed anything with the 180 yet, that I can recall, but it comes from killing lineage, a la 162 AM...

The 195’s work fine on flesh IME.

Each rifle’s a bit different, but 0.401 G7 works well for the 180 in my rifles...

Why’d you switch?

Exterior ballistics, cost, accuracy. I’m confident both will kill, but the 180 was the winner in the other categories.

I would go with the most accurate.

I shoot 140 grain Ballistic tip in my 7mm ultra mag.

180 Hybrids have been great from my 28 Nosler.

I might be a bit of old school. That being said, If I had a 28 Nosler I would be using a 175 grain Nosler Partition. You would never need to trouble yourself with shot angle. With that load you can pic your shot with confidence.

I'd shoot a 180 berger or a 180 scenar before I'd shoot a 180 ELD over 3000 fps again. Nothing like personal experience though. I am surprised that not more are using the Scenar.

Many 28 Nosler shooters will never shoot over 450 yards. They just want flat shooting and hard hitting to put a deer down where they are standing. What would be the best bullet for them?

Getting kinda hard to find 28 Nosler brass and loaded ammo.

They must be quite interesting? I have had 500 of them on order since January.

I talked to Nosler on Monday. 28 Nosler brass is coming off the line presently and being sorted and packaged.

He’s going to want the one that’ll still preform at high velocities. I haven’t given much thought to bullets for whitetails, just about any of the higher BC fodder ought to work. That said, the 28 Nosler seems like colossal overkill for whitetails inside 450 yards. For Roosevelt Elk, I’m going with the 195gr. Berger EOL, banking that it will preform at both short and long ranges.

My plan as well. My 28 Nosler will be running the 195 EOL for everything this season as they shoot stupid well in my rifle. I plan to play with the scenars before spring though.

For deer pursuits I have a GAP 6.5 4S enroute for the lighter game.

I think sweating over a slight difference in BC is less important than what the bullet does when it gets there. But I do it anyway.

Nosler Partition or the trophy Bonded tipped is what I think would be the best Elk bullet.

Here are results for 195 gr Berger fired from my 28 Nosler
Buck was shot at a ranged 350 yds. The antelope knew I was there and started getting antsy, he was facing me head on then turned broad side but before I could get steady on him he turned with a hard quartering away. I hit him on the on side shoulder low pulverizing the large bone and exiting the right front chest. I was a bit put off by the damage but figured with that angle it was to be expected

Next was my doe antelope at 150 yds ranged .I aimed for shoulder to see what would happen this the bullet. Perfect shot through on side shoulder and exit just behind off shoulder.

I’m ok with results and accuracy from this bullet so will continue using them

I have had great results using 168gr hunting vld and rl 25.

I shoot the 180 eldm in my 28. Cheaper, higher bc, and can run faster than the 195s. Plus my rifle is only a 9 twist but it did shoot 195s ok.
