What are your thoughts on the RWS 45 ACP small primer cases? Is the small primer system somehow better than the large?

I got a email saying bullets.com has it on sale. RWS has a good reputation so I suspect it’s good stuff. I would buy some but I already have plenty of large primed brass. Hasbeen

The small primer in a .45 Auto is not "better", although they work fine. Sure is a pain to have to sort them out of the large primer brass though. Given the plentiful availability of large primer brass, I don't see any reason to intentionally purchase the small primer stuff.

The small primer in .45 ACP is intended for non-toxic primers, but as a component the end-user can do whatever. There is no difference in performance.

Forgive me my nonsense, as I also forgive the nonsense of those that think they talk sense.

LP in the .45 ACP is too much. Case is too small for the pressure. Works fine in a 1911 but fails in a revolver big time.Pressure will push the bullet out before ignition. SP will actually shoot better in a 1911.

Large pistol primers have been working perfectly for 100 years.

I guess I haven't really reloaded the .45 acp, or if so, it wasn't much. Couple weekends ago I went to load some of the brass I've been keeping since the ammo shortage of a few years ago (when I shot what was available.) I got about about in the middle of the first 50 and couldn't get a primer to go in.. turns out there is such a thing as a small primer version. shocked blush

I tumbled about 500 cases last weekend and realized I had to sort them. About 2 or 3:1 large to small primer pockets. mad

My friend John brought a new S&W revolver in ACP out, Spray city. I sat and looked at brass, said primer is too much for a revolver. I made bushings for a SP primer and accuracy was so good he went to Once Fired Brass and bought 1000 Speer SP cases.
Now a 1911 is a different animal but the revolver has a jump and gap so the bullet can come out too soon.
