Yes, I know the .380 round is shorter than .22LR round so conversion kits would not even work.

I love my Beretta Bobcat/21a but I would like a more modern, lighter/ploymer semiauto that has a real extractor and with the same approximate size, if not thinner. Put an adjustable rear sight on it please.

I would also want the option of buying a separate, threaded barrel like what is done now with the SR22.

Are there any other inexpensive alternatives out there?

Another I'd like to see is a 22 LR conversion for a Glock 43. A G42 conversion would be neat, too.

Twisted Industries doesn't have exactly that, but they do have some interesting conversion kits. I was contemplating the Kel-Tec PF9 .22 LR kit, but ultimately decided I'd rather own a dedicated .22 instead of paying $200 for a kit and only being able to use one or the other.

The Walther PP's are great but they are expensive and not as small as the LCP's. It is the same with the Browning 1911-22 and SIG p938-22. Those are small but not truly "pocket small." Same thing for the Ruger SR22 and the Pheonix HP22A though much less expensive.

The Iver Johnson TP22 can still be found here and there for an OK price. The sights are vestigial nubbins and thus terrible.

The Lorcin always sorta looked fugly too me.

The Beretta .22 Short guns (950 and Minx) can also be found pretty cheap still but, again, no extractor. The Taurus and FIE clones of the Beretta are out there also.

To my knowledge, there is no modern, polymer, pocket 22LR semiauto.

The Heizer Defense guns look like can be great pocket 22's because they are so thin. Although they are not semiautos, they have the same form factor. I always thought that they would make great o/u rimfire survival/woods pistols if you put decent sights on it. It's too bad they don't make them in 22LR.

While we're at it, there are no modern 22LR DA revolvers sized for the 22LR. 22LR really doesn't need more than NAA sized guns. DA revolvers in 22LR can thus be made almost as slim/thin as semiautomatic 22LR's. Even the S&W I frames are kinda big but more correct, imo. They can be more like the S&W M frames and Rossi Princess.

How about in .22 Short if Long Rifle is too long?

Huh?? What about the Ruger SR-22, and Smith and Wesson's M&P 22C?, or the Walther ?

Those are not POCKET semiautos.

I guess we can deliberate about "whose pocket" and how big pockets actually are...

An LCP is a pocket semiauto. A G42 is barely a pocket semiauto.

Call me old, but I always sorta thought that pocket semiautos are those that could be shoved in the same space as one would shove a pack of smokes.

as far as i know, such an animal doesn't exist--but with the current trend to pare down/miniaturize the semi auto, someone will eventually offer one.

meanwhile;

check out the Smith and Wesson model 61 Escort. they are a great rig. single action, and very accurate. 5+1, carried C&L in a holster--in or out of pocket.

there is also the Walther TPH, a double action rig--which is a little more suited to pocket carry without a holster.

neither is as small as a Seecamp, but they are reasonably small rigs, about as close to fitting into the "pocket-rig" category as you can get right now...

in my opinion, the Beretta model 70s, or the model 71 Jaguar is the very best .22 rimfire pistol in the "small" category. very accurate, extremely reliable, holding 8+1 in a small package.

they are not really a pocket rig though. essentially, most everyone that tries one of these rigs, ends up trying to find one. i first used one in 1971, and was instantly hooked...

..that is a great photo, as the pics in your pocket present a good illustration to plainly clarify the context of a "pocket rigs" category.

that little Beretta is a fun rig, but if you can find an Escort, it would surely slake your thirst.


i can't say i truly consider the Beretta model 71 Jaguar a "pocket rig" in the sense of say, a Seecamp, nevertheless consider this:


Ruger Mark 1 with 4 3/4 inch tapered barrel;

holds 9+1;
is 9 inches long;
weighs 35 ounces.


Beretta model 71 Jaguar with 3 1/2 barrel;

holds 8+1;
is 6.5 inches long;
weighs 17 ounces.


holds nearly as many rounds, weighs half as much, is 2 1/2 inches shorter, and has absolute reliability. accuracy is great, and it is no trouble to put a magazine full on a paper plate at 50 yards. not exactly an honest pocket rig, but by contrast to the great Ruger pistol, the Beretta is a true anomaly...

pic of an old beater i often use to help beginning shooters learn essential fundamentals. this one sports a cross-bolt safety (which i never use), and a "pedal style" slide release. it's a wreck--rust, pits, dings and all--but like a Timex watch, it keeps on ticking. have never had a time when someone did not like this particular model--they are truly at the very top of the pile...

I have been having a hard time finding one locally fora good proce though.

Fast forward to last week -> a good friend set me up with ‘70’s-era Interams Walther PPK/S rimfire

I have yet to pick it up but I am thinking that it is in the sweet spot of small enough but with enough grip and weight to shoot accurately EASILY.

I had a heck of a time trying to shoot a Ruger LCP accurately a while back. It was too small and light - not happening.

Like women, skinny guns are sexy and all... until it’s time to do some some work

Having an LCP22 would quickly become the ultimate SD handgun in the known world. Since the trend is to go down in power to go up in reliability in SD the 22RF would surpass the 380Auto as the ultimate SD handgun.
I would buy 5 of them.
