I'm assuming the majority of people in the US of A don't have running water in their house. Would that be a correct assumption?
How else can one explain people buying cases of bottled water. Duh....it's to flush the toilets in case the electricity goes off.

You buy all the bottled water because you don't have any containers. You can take it home, drink or pour it out, and then (despite the triangle 1) on the bottom fill from your tap. Wonder if all the bleach is sold out too?
On the reality side, a bad storm can compromise the water works.
I wonder about some people not being prepared. Some things keep and can be stocked ahead of time.

Hell, If you've ever been camping, you have about 90% of everything you need to survive comfortably for a fairly extended period of time.

We used to fill up both bathtubs with water when the storm was a few hours away, both for drinking and flushing, but never needed it. The electricity always went out for several hours to a few days but the water never stopped flowing.
There were three big hurricanes that hit S. Florida in the early part of of this century, one of them knocked out electricity at the old home for about two weeks. My mother's biggest complaint during that time was having to take baths in cold water.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

I guess it also depends on the emergency. In a hurricane, dust storm etc, it might be good to have some compact goggles to keep crap out of your eyes. Or if it's a forest fire or dust storm, maybe a dust mask or respirator to keep crap out of your lungs. Obviously, carry weight is a concern, but it would be nice to have a compact night vision device to see the enemy approaching at night. Hard to prepare for anything.
