I'd like something to pack along with my rifle for closer shot opportunities. My 4" 41 Redhawk is just huge. My 4" SS fits my hand much better and is handier to pack. I looked at the GP 100s in 44 Special, but I'd like a longer barrel 4-5" barrel for hunting purposes.

Are single-actions out of the question?

5" GP100 .44 Special. These were a limited run for Lipseys and the supply has dried up but the used ones are starting to show up on gunbroker.

Same thing, 5" .44 Special GP100 but with a full underlug - these are more numerous and there are a handful on gunbroker and maybe at some of the online dealers. This model never did sell that well so prices are comparatively reasonable.

That's why there's love the 10mm. Little more gusto than the 357 and nearing bottom end of 41 mag, in a size that's on par with the 357, and often lighter with higher round capacity. Heres some weights:

G20 with a 5.5" barrel weighs 41.625oz. fully loaded (15 rounds)
SW29 44mag Mountain Gun weighs 44.875oz. fully loaded (6 rounds)
Kimber 1911 10mm comes in at 46.5 loaded (9 rounds).

Sure the 44 mag has more energy - hands down, but the 10mm is suitable for just about any big game in the lower 48 with a full power round and it holds more ammo and is lighter.

This is another great option. SBH in .480 Ruger with a 4 5/8-inch barrel. The recoil isn't bad even when loaded up and it will do a whole lot more than a .44 on big game. Ignore energy figures as they don't tell you anything about terminal effectiveness and are a poor measure of lethality.

I have had 2 of the 20's, with the G40 I would make a $20 bet that you will get a glock trigger and glock accuracy out of the G40 unless you add aftermarket trigger and barrel. I personally would take another route. I myself am considering one of the Smith model 69 5 shot 44 magnums, which is kind of like a 10mm only different.

Add another zero or two to that $20 and I'll take that bet.

Here's me with a stock Glock20 splitting bullets on an axe blade.

first I don't know what trigger or barrel is in your gun, then you walked 8 steps to the target, that is about 24 feet, at 25 yards I would be impressed. Don't get me wrong, I like glocks and have a bunch of them, but statistically speaking someone is going to clean your clock accuracy wise with a 1911 type action, or a a single action or double action revolver, hell my sig P365 is twice as accurate as any of the 30-40 glocks I have owned and many still owned.

Post your video here and I'll call it even - any gun you want. We even said it was 25' in the video. smile The Glock was 100% stock there, but I was using my reloads. And I beg to differ on the revolvers; I have yet to find an off-the-shelf one that's better than my best off-the-shelf semi-autos. Revolvers have five or more chambers and each one has it's own nuisances. Pick up a Ruger SA or DA and there's actually play in the cylinder while it's locked. Neither are conducive for prime accuracy.

I'll take you up on that. I have a stone stock, loose as a goose .454 SBH that will shoot groups like this with factory loads with boring regularity. I have plenty of revolvers that will shoot similarly. This is a 50 yard group pff the bench.

I don't have an tomahawk to split bullets on but I can shoot a few groups, count me as a non believer regards glock accuracy better than 3-4 inches at 25 yards off the bags...
