I generally try and keep a few things in the vehicle in case I get stuck somewhere. There's an awful lot of desolate road in my neck of the woods. Especially late at night. Hit a moose or bison and your vehicle isn't going anywhere. Cell service is real spotty too.

This one stays in my truck nearly all the time unless I'm using it or hunting. Always goes back in the same place.

You can pound nails with them if needed.

I just keep a Fiskars axe, and a Silky Katanaboy 500 behind the seat on the truck. And a shovel, prybar, and log chain in the back.

Have a few hard-use knives that can handle most knife jobs.

The first prepper you meet, would be the best chance of having stuff put by for when things go crazy, they would also be the first ones expecting mauraders. Thier range markers, thier forifacations, thier surprises like concealment you thought was cover., thief fall back positions. Yeah....great plan. They'll use you for fertilizer.

Calm down pilgrim. Twas said in jest.

My Emerson Folder is on me fairly often.

That said I am really a fan of Mora fixed blade knives for general purpose use, and have them in various sizes. In fact the last 1/2 dozen elk I have skinned and processed have all be done with Mora knives:

You can see the Mora stuck in the top of the elk in this pic.

They make a little Mora called the Eldris that weighs almost nothing, that I keep in my chest pack. It goes hiking, kayaking etc. Cool little knife and super sharp.

One that is a folder, that really would make an outstanding "Bug out bag" type knife if the Cold steel Pocket Bushman. RJM got one for me as a gift. I just looked and realized that I don't have a pic on my IMGUR account. Something I need to correct. It is a large folding knife, but surprisingly thin, and pretty handy considering the size. I am not into large knives, but I REALLY like the Pocket Bushman quite a bit and often carry it as a second knife at work.

I impulse bought a Buck Selkirk.

The sheath was garbage and fell apart in seconds, but I kind of like the knife.

It is robust. If it got too dull, you could beat someone to death with it.

I will get around to building a leather sheath for it.

I've been looking at that Eldris. I've got a Mora Companion, it's a tough little knife too for the cost/weight.
