Here is a tip for you in building a 9.3X62 on a GEW length Mauser. Take the rear ferral and measure it. Take a piece if tubing with a 1/4" ID and cut it off square at .080" longer then the old one. That will be the new one you will use. Now make a ring of the same tubing .080" long to go around the front guard screw. This will cinch up between the screw boss and bottom metal. When you install these you will see the magazine box is now dropped .080" low. NOW------ take brass or steel shims and solder them to the front and sides of the magazine edges so you fill the space and dress then off with a file inside and outside. When it's done it will look like this. 5 shot 9.3X57 mag by Steve Zihn, on Flickr Now when you make the stock you need to allow a bit of extra wood on the bottom, but when it's done you can't see any difference at all, but doing it this way allows you to load 5 rounds with ease. So does widening the magazine at the front shoulder like it should be. This also promotes better feeding.

Built mine on a JC Higgins model 51 . FN Belgium commercial action. This would be a really good avenue for MM to take, buy a JCH in 270 or '06 in the classifieds, send it to JES, cerakote all metal and slap it into a McMillan, a matte 1.75-6 Leupold guiding 286 gr Partitions would handle the rest

JES may not want to drill a chrome line bore. But, otherwise, the most cost effective approach is to typically start with a commercial receiver as they are most often already scope ready. In this case the OP stated he wanted an "old Mauser". Lotsa folks like the look of the non-commercial receiver better, more traditional.

I like the look of the thumb cut out on the military versions. After looking around though it seems the Husqvarna 146 has the cut out as well. Is that a commercial or military action? Learning a ton about the different iterations of Mausers over the last couple days. Lot of stuff out there. Excited to see what I have with the barreled action. Should be here next week. May just pick up a 146 as well and see whats what. Thanks for all the input fellas!

Mad Mooner If you just happen to need to borrow a 9.3 x 62 chamber reamer, let me know. You welcome to borrow the one I have resting in my shop.

Very nice rifles, z1r!! I have the same taste for rifles. By the way, how many cartridges can be loaded in the magazines of the Husqvarnas? Both in the original 9,3x62 and the rechambered ones? Thank you!

Here’s closeup of the one I built on a .Husqvarna 146 So far as I am concerned Kay, those are the very best for money deal in the sporting firearms world. Not even Brno stand up in comparison in per $ value.
These are my opinions, feel free to disagree.

They are real quality. Young son has a 640 in 30/06 and another also mebbe a 640 ? in .270 Win. What great rifles! The .270 is gorgeous. Nice walnut stock. Both the older FN 98 Mauser actions too.

There is a Husqvarna 1640 in 9.3x62 on GunBroker now for 750.00. It’s a small ring Mauser action.

Would it blasphemy to suggest a 1917 Enfield as a candidate ?

Realistically, it would be a Zastava M70...you could buy it in 9.3x62. Even it you couldn't find it in 9.3x62, you could easily find a brand new one to rebore for around $400.
Me, I'd still probavly just sink too much into an old military one that had been already bubba'ed up...but I don't always make the most sense.

I've got three Mausers I can't afford to build right now! A VZ24 with "bubba" modified bolt. An unmolested Turk. And a commercial Dumoulin Belgium NIB action.
No matter how you do it, they are the flathead Fords of the gun world! Old, heavy, fun as hell, and spendy for what you get......

Would it blasphemy to suggest a 1917 Enfield as a candidate ? It would work but would be big and heavy. Those big Enfields will take a full length magnum up to 416 Rigby and larger.
