The Epicyon (epic dog) lived till the late miocene.

Not a wolf, but a dog, like the Lycaon pictus, African Wild Dog of today, is a dog rather than a wolf.

I guess that's a Dingo it's illustrated next to.

LOL. True. Of course, like the African Wild Dog, it would not be possible for these dogs to interbreed with domesticated dogs, which descend from Canis Lupus. The Epicyon didn't descend from Canis Lupus, which existed along side it, but was a sufficiently distant species of canidae as not to permit interbreeding.

That’s one larger Dog, but since it doesn’t exist anymore. I guess a superior breed must have wiped them.

Yep, or the game which he specialized in hunting disappeared, or his environment changed in a major way, too quickly for adaptation to occur.

Paleontology is a philosophy of science; not a hard science in the sense that’s its theories are observable or ever have been, repeatable by experimentation, or in that it’s subjects will ever occur again.

You’d be better served by keeping you dogmatic (yes, partial pun) Paleontological ramblings at the level of
speculation rather than as professorial pronouncements.

You don't understand the definition of science if you think the field of paleontology isn't a scientific field.

Would you say it’s on the same level as Na + H20 in the lab? Paleontology is the study of bits ‘n pieces and occasionally “wholes” from which great inferences are drawn. Maybe some are correct.

Paleoanthropology is even worse.
