Awesome looking rifle. I just wish they offered this config without the threading on the end. But, I'll probably never buy one anyway. That black with green stock looks great. Enjoy it, looks like a super nice rifle.

That's a good price. Not sure about the cartridge, though. Think it's any good? 😜

I bore sighted mine, loaded a few 143 ELDX factory loads in the mag and shot one shot at 25, made a slight adjustment and shot one at 100. I then shot four shots at 100 and the only evidence I could find in the target of the four shots was a slightly oblong hole. Something must be wrong. Production guns with no tweaking don't shoot one-hole groups with $30 per box factory ammo. Maybe it's key-holing and I missed the paper all together. Should I return it to Barrett?

They do things right. Didn't have any doubts it would shoot but nice to hear it. Really is a nice platform all the way around and the extras with this one are just icing on the cake.

DesertMuleDeer,
Thanks for the report. I hope they see enough success with the #2 contour (on the SA) they'll offer a couple of other chamberings. And perfectly understandable if they wish to keep things simple/streamlined with their current lineup.

And perfectly understandable if they wish to keep things simple/streamlined with their current lineup. Scott, according to Aviator above it's a no.1 contour, but perhaps that's incorrect? Without the no.2 there's nothing here that sets it apart enough from the regular SA Fieldcraft for me. I have a 270 Fieldcraft with no.2 coming tomorrow...

Brad, My Creedmoor FC is 0.630" at 21" or so next to the increased diameter at the muzzle.
I am running a Grizzly Gun Works brake with a blast redirector on my .308 18.5" FC with threading. I was shooting the .308 beside the 6.5 yesterday and the brake-redirector combo added enough weight at the muzzle to really settle the .308 down shooting offhand. Plus full power loads in .308 recoil like a .223 with no increased blast for the shooter or bystanders.

Brad, that would not be the first time I missed a rather important detail.

That’s good to hear... I lobbied for the no.2 when SAS was taking suggestions. Seemed like a no-brainer given .264 tubes are already available in the heavier contour (LA 6.5x55).

I think the #2 vs #1 is overplayed a bit. The #1 on my fieldcraft is thicker than the barrel on my 84M all the way to about the 20” point. The weight forward difference is negligible. Unless of course you think the 84M is too light too.

Unless of course you think the 84M is too light too. I absolutely think the 84M is too light... the no.2 of the Barrett makes it feel like an entirely different animal, despite being of similar weights. The no.2 Fieldcraft points, balances, settles down far better for snap or long shooting. It's a night and day difference picking up the two. My remaining MT(s) will get rebarreled to a modified 84M contour and .620" at the muzzle.

Sounds like a decent rifle. Anyone have pics of the green stocked, ceracoated, threaded 22” barreled model? I’m interested to see what it looks like. I’m assuming it’s stainless under the ceracoat.

Just ordered one myself.
I have a 2.5-10x32 NXS on hand. That should make a nice combination for a backpack rifle.

I think it's too bad Barrett deep-sixed Whittakers and took this offering from them, after SAS did all the work here.
I could have done without the tumor on the end of the barrel and have no need of ceracoate. Without those and a street price the same as a regular Fieldcraft I would have been an owner. (And it's not the best looking green stock color I've ever seen).
Chet, I'll be curious to hear if you have any complaints about the bolt...
