Ed, Best luck over there... Kids still ask about you, so I think it is only a matter of time we escape in that direction at some point in the future. It will be a longer drive to visit, but hopefully we'll do it more frequently. Starts to look like a 24HCF homewarming party is building up... just don't arrange for any "exciting" weather events as you did for the previous gatherings

Sorry your getting so far away. Past three years, every time I check the local weather radar, I look to see what's up in Gilmer.

Well you will be in the oil field. Which means more expensive rooms and food. Lots of traffic on the roads. Carlsbad NM would probably or may be the nicest town. Not sure what you are looking for. Co. truck would be nice cause you will be running hundreds of miles. Hope it's a big Association or the Feds.

Looks like you're about 4-5 hours west of me,Ed. East... Close enough to go elephant rabbit hunting, though. Yup. Hobbs is in Lea County next to the Texas border. . Carlsbad is in Hobbs. Norm

You’ll be better off trying to find housing in Lea county. Prices and availability in Eddy are ridiculous.

Artesia is an easy place to find a high paying job and a nice place to live... .... if you have a high school age football star son.

Carlsbad is probably the nicest town, IMO, when normal. The last census shows a population of 32k. I think there are about 80k living in the area, with more coming everyday. It’s an absolute madhouse and the infrastructure can’t support it.
Hobbs use to be this way but not to the same extent. Hobbs built up the infrastructure to support it and the main oilfield area shifted more to Carlsbad.

I sorely need a change as the last few years have been beyond miserable. Ending a 27 year marriage to a stranger has not been a fun ride. Pretty sure I can relate, but hey, at least you still got A/C In Hobbs it used to be when the Dairy Queen had "WE HAVE BANANAS TODAY" on the sign out front folks were livin' large That were thirty years ago, prob'ly the proximity of the oil fields might have changed things since then. If you get lonely, driving the 120 miles between Artesia and Cloudcroft is the closest driving (or riding, when on a motorcycle) metaphor to sex I have ever seen: starts out flat but sorta interesting, gradually gets better and better, prettier and prettier, faster and faster and then you're up in the mountains in the trees and the road gets windier and windier and finally at the far end of main street Cloudcroft the vast vista of White Sands and the distant Organ Mountains suddenly opens up before you. Light up a cigarette and then go eat at the Great Bear Cafe. Seriously I predict two things are gonna happen; you are gonna love the life and the place and there will be good women available if you want. JMHO.

That's good to know, since I recently picked up a 12 gauge,1942 vintage, Winchester model 24 that fits me like no other shotgun has ever. First time out on doves I went 14 birds for 20 shells. 😁 It's choked cylinder and modified. I know, using a 12ga for quail is cheating, but I can't afford the VH Grade Parker I want..😔 Ed
