I like them just fine...have had them in 2 .458 Win, 2 .375 H&H, 1 .257W and seen a few other shot by their owners. I'm a sucker for an FN Action or copy! ha

Found a NIB Mk X Mannlicher in 7x57 last week. Mine now. z1r, How does the stock compare to a Husqvarna FS in the amount of wood left on the foreend?
Shew me thy ways, O LORD: teach me thy paths. "there are few better cartridges on Earth than the 7 x 57mm Mauser" "the .30 Springfield is light, accurate, penetrating, and has surprising stopping power"

Mooshoo - I'll be watching for your follow-on post regarding your "break-in" of the .358 Norma! I always thought I wanted a .358 Norma, but haven't found a platform I really liked; your Mark X sounds like a great project. Good luck! i'd like to find one more and do a 416 taylor

Not as thin but it is a one piece affair unlike the Husqvarna. I like them both. The end cap on the Mk X is what I'd call more traditional, more closely resembles the Mauser Type M.

MD, what is your impression of the Zastava 98 labelled as M70? I am eyeing one in 300 Win Mag for $350. At the price of a Ruger American is it worth a gamble as a user or maybe future build? As if I need another. lol. Not MD, obviously, but it is quickly becoming my "go to" hunting rifle. The finish on the metal easily matches that on my M70 or my BIL's M700, and the action is very smooth now that it has been cycled 1000+ times. The featherweight contour barrel doesn't string its shot as it gets warm, and it was easy to adjust the trigger to right at 2 lbs with zero creep. It is also easily the most accurate of my 7x57s, keeping almost everything I've used well within one MOA, especially the longer 175-grain bullets. I don't know whether or not that can be attributed to the faster European twist (1:866 instead of 1:9.5) - that would be a question for the technical guys - but it puts 175-grain Speer Deep Curls and Grand Slams into a nice little group. Zastava did a great job on the metal work. The stock, on the other hand, is a different story. I've previously described it as consisting of "checkering" cut with a pocket knife, all finished with a single Lipton tea bag. It was really that bad. I've never done anything to slim the stock (which it could use), nor have I had it re-checkered - both options are on the table - but I did use a small bottle of TimberLuxe on the wood, inside and out. Underneath that tea bag finish was some nice walnut. Someday I might just have the entire stock dressed up a bit. As for tweaking, the only thing I've had done is bedding and floating the barrel, as well as the installation of a red Decelerator, which matches the red tint in the wood. HT to Jim Kobe for his excellent work. For the price, I don't think buying one for a future build would be at all out of the question. RM
"An archer sees how far he can be from a target and still hit it, a bowhunter sees how close he can get before he shoots." It is certainly easy to use that same line of thinking with firearms. -- Unknown

I went in to a gun shop and hardware store today (same place) to do a transfer for a firearm. While waiting, I saw the familiar sight of a mark x whitworth on the gun rack. It’s a 458 win mag safari that’s really nice if anyone’s interested , pm me.

Here is another .300 Win Mag in case someone wants one. I have no connection to the seller, just passing it along. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/782571346

It now belongs to my daughter and wears a Bell Carlson carbolite black stock with a Leopold fixed 6. It came with the nice 4 screw trigger that the Mark Xs come with and those triggers when adjusted properly are a fine trigger. The rifle also shot around 1" at 200 yds 3 shot groups. In my opinion the Zastava M70 beats the Ruger American hands down Trystan
Good bullets properly placed always work, but not everyone knows what good bullets are, or can reliably place them in the field
