Every company builds a lemon every now and then. A friend had a GMC Duramax that had a short/broken wire in the main wire bundle. He used our lemon law and provided lawyer to get rid of it. His lawyer told him some dealers are far worse than others when you get a lemon.

Had a similar experience with an 85 Ford, pickup 460 engine,4 sp, 4:10. They kept dicking around with the problems until it went out of warranty and then would not mess with it. The 98 Dodge I still have has had brake problems since I bought it.They could never fix it. We will see e how this new Chevy works out

Yeah, hang onto that ‘06. Seems they went downhill from there. Diesel trucks from that vintage bring a premium and for a reason.

Good bud who’s a cattleman had a new Dodge diesel. Dash lights kept on going off, finally dash lit up like a Christmas tree, engine shut down, left him in the field. He sold that Dodge, got a Ford gasser. I’ve seen other long time diesel owners revert back to gassers.

My [insert brand] truck is one month old and has 1700 miles. It’s the best truck ever made.

I used to drive Fords...dad called them v-8's. No more.

Bought a new Toyota Tundra in 2004. Did a complete brake job on it at 200K; pads, rotors, cylinder, the works. Wife is at 300K on that one. No other issues. I bought a new 2014 Tundra and now have 70K on it. No trouble at all! I think the US auto industry is dead and will never see sales as in the past.

That truck was traded in Saturday for a 2018 4Runner. I suspect I will own it for 10 years or 200,000 repair free miles, whichever comes first.

My wife has had 2 Camry's and a Rav4 over the same 20 year span. Oil changes and on one car, brakes. Each time we've flipped a Toyota we've gotten top private party value within a few days, and probably left cash on the table.

I mean, we're getting 100K+ miles out of brake pads, rotors, spark plugs, belts, hoses, etc.... Virtually ZERO repair costs, sans scheduled maintenance.

I cannot FATHOM buying a Ford (Chevy, GMC, or anything else)

Maybe if they built a 3/4 ton.

Damn, and yes, salesman at the dealership calls about once or twice a year wanting me to bring my old truck in for an upgrade, I said hell Chief, you don't sell an upgrade, he wants my old truck, probably for the reasons you mentioned. smile

I like Tacoma’s. I believe the Japanese are still a work in progress on half ton trucks.

I like Tacoma’s . The verdict is still out on the newer Tundras like your 2014.

There's 4 Fords sitting in my driveway. All run great, drive great and have had no service issues.

Some anecdotal story about a friend, who knows a guy, isn't going to knock Ford trucks off the throne.

By the way, the F-Series trucks are on pace for record sales in 2018.

In the first half of 2018, Ford has sold more than 450,000 F-Series trucks. That comes out to about one sale every 35 seconds.

The market and American consumers have voted with their wallets, and the Ford F Series is #1.

I bought a few new ones back when, but I figured out what works so switched a few times until I found what works. There are certain years and models that have proven themselves. Nowadays, let others figure it out at their loss and drive the old ones that work right. they're not perfect but after this long you know what the weaknesses are and what they cost to keep on the road. No trucks with problematic $7K transmissions in our driveway!

99 Cummins 4x4 185K
93 Cummins 80K
92 Toyota 4x4 for hunting 160K
POS 95 Ford F350 dumptruck 80K

Wife drives a 2009 toyota 4 door truck to work, it's been reliable but I sure don't like driving it. Too much electronic "people control" for me. I don't need my truck telling me what to do and how to do it, and don't spin your tires or we'll cut the power off, or slide your wheels, or sit in the seat w/o fastening your seatbelt, or put groceries in the seat w/o fastening the seatbelt for that matter.

All this new electronic crap has gone beyond it's usefulness and is now just annoying and disruptive to my driving style, which is me driving the truck, not the other way around.

If you need a diesel get a Cummins and don’t look back. Duramax is alright too if you avoid the problematic years.

That 4.6 is what is in my 98. Plugs are a 4 hour deal to do, being careful. If I ever hit the lotto I will have the heads redone and steel inserts put in. LOL Brothers Chev same year has the door hinges falling loose, and something in the engine is failing and giving him "the light". He does haul a camper I don't.

At times I would like to just have the old flathead or stovebolt, but an sure I would get over it soon enough.

I see some odd things at times; a Ford with 7 hole wheels, a Ford with 6 hole (but not Chevy pattern).

Do you ever watch any of the "started after XX years" you tubes? Bet any of the current crop will never make the grade.

The whole F150 line is equipped with auto start stop which is a deal breaker for me. I will be looking at Chevy or GMC and would rather get my fuel savings via their 8 cylinder down to 4 when power isn't needed rather than to have it shut off at red lights. Talked with the Ford dealership and there is a fix which requires pulling the dash apart placing a jumper on the temporary override switch but they won't do it. Their loss.

Not necessary for the dealer to do any ‘fix’ as there is a manual override button on the dash of all F150’s equipped with Stop-Start technology. Another option is to install a trailer light tester as the Stop-Start is disabled if the computer thinks that a trailer is hooked-up to the truck.
It’s actually humorous to read the baseless comments about Stop-Start technology by individuals who have no idea how it works....

I have a '99 Dodge 3/4 ton Cummins 5-speed. Just changed the oil yesterday. 281K. Not everything is perfect with it, but it keeps on keeping on. Rides rough, slow to heat up in the winter, driver's seat is wearing out. Had to buy new floor mats for it a few months ago.
