I loved mine in a savage 99, didn’t fit me though and the recoil wasn’t to my liking. It went down the road. I’ll have another one someday I’m sure, but I’m playing with a few other chamberings for the time being. Also had a 348 Winchester , beautiful browning 71. Little on the heavy side to carry. Ballistic wise they are near identical twins. They both killed deer dead, as do most other centerfire rifles.

I had a ruger scout rebored by JES. Just like the 358. Shoots great. Same recoil as 308.

This is my 20" R700 at a nice mellow 2,230 FPS and Hornady 200s at 100 yards x 3 shots...

The faster load (2,630 FPS) is about 1/2"

If you are not actively engaging EVERY enemy you encounter... you are allowing another to fight for you... and that is cowardice... plain and simple.

Think it was about 2 years back when i got a Remington 7KS in .358 from another fellow here on the 'fire.... i topped it with a 1.5-5x with German #4 reticle...52.0gr TAC with the 180 TTSX yields 2504fps....liking the combo quite a bit...

I read an article where the Author built a wooden box where he could stager wooden dowels to simulate brush to do a test for the best "brush gun". While he acknowledged there was no rifle cartridge that would reliably shoot through brush a hit the target, he did have the best results from the mid range .33/.35 caliber cartridges moving at moderate speed.

Yes, it’s an F. Fireball2 got me interested in 99’s. He sold me a 308. I was surprised at how accurate it is. I’m eager to shoot this one. It will be after the first before I get supplies to load a few rounds.

Hornady 200 gr. RN are yielding great groups in my Redman rebored pre'64 M/70 .35 Whelen, used it to harvest this fall's KY whitetail. The bullet was recovered weighing 122 gr. perfectly mushroomed, I plan to use this load for all my future whitetail hunting.

I have a couple boxes of Sierra 200 grain round nose bullets to try. They should be great on deer and pigs.

I had two 358's, my Model 99 was the first year Savage offered it, shot it a number of years, then found out how much it was worth, made a very nice profit on it.
I missed how well it worked on local whitetail, so i had Montana Rifle Co. build me a custom one with a left handed action and a stock that fit my over sized body.
Great round in a fantastic gun.
