Is that a 30mm tube? I have an 1885 in 7 mag and mounted a Leupold VX3 3-10X40 on it with Conetrol Gunnur rings and mounts. It's very sturdy and they look good too.
The lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part!

I assume you have a reproduction, if it is an original disregard my post.,
What rings and mounts you use depends on the barrel you have. If it is a tapered octagon the only maker I know of is Conetrol. (great bases and rings). Tally makes a mount for the 1885 / B78 but it would not work on my B78 because of the taper (I think that was the problem anyway). The mounts that came with the rifle were a dovetail front and windage rear made by Burris if you have a Browning and in the small to medium calibers the ring heights are different front to back. On mine it was .130 higher for the front. Leupold was the only standard dovetail front and windage rear that was .130 different so I went with those on the original Burris bases. I mean a medium windage ring and a high dovetail in front. Since Leupold doesn't sell singles two pair were bought.
I don't know about the Winchester rifles.
Go to Conetrol's website and look at the detail on the 1885 reproduction bases and rings. I recall he makes a distinction between smaller calibers and larger calibers.

I would check with Talley a few years ago they had the bridge type mount for the 1885 low wall I would have gotten one if I had not just purchased the Conetrols. Mine needed shimming to line up, Conetrol offered to re-grind them but I didn't take them up on the offer when I should have.

This is the big problem with the whole Browning/Miruko/Winchester 1885 product line. How much would it cost to supply some sort or base with each rifle sold. They are nice guns, but; I wont be buying any more. Ruger that got part right. Now if only the Rugers could shoot. I wonder if Miruko could make the Rugers?

With my Browning 1885 I put Weaver bases on it, but had to shim the one in front. I put in more and more layers of paper until a scope [with the crosshairs in the center of the tube] would bore sight. Then I replaced the paper stack with a single piece of sheet metal of equivalent thickness. With my Uberti 1885 I rebarreled and made a clamp for the barrel just ahead of the receiver for the scope mount and the forend and bi pod.

When I bought my Low Wall Hornet about 2000, I ordered the Leupold bases listed for it. Not sure what the error was, but they didn't fit, so I bought Burris instead, along with Signature rings. Haven't touched them since, or the Vari-X II 3-9 riding in them. Most consistent and trouble-free rig I own.
What fresh Hell is this?

I have a set of Leupold bases for a High Wall that I will not use if anyone is interested.

The Talley base is superb as are the rings.
