I don't get the short handle thing. A longer handle adds much greater utility and weighs almost nothing.

Oh sorry, congrats on the new hatchet. I like it anyway.

Haha I got a regular sized one too. Dunno if it’s the weight so much, just making it compact for packs etc? Throw in your truck consul etc

Nice piece Jud.

Was always curious about this model - short and head heavy.

Best use for either close or overhead work?

That's not bad.......they're $155 on Amazon which is usually a pretty good barometer.

I'm not sure I'd ever use it if I had one but ya gotta like it.

I have used mine to take apart a couple of moose and a handful of deer. Very handy little devil.
Also gets used around camp to split kindling, prep food etc. Lots of fun to make a feather stick with too. Always impresses the kids.
Mine is going elk hunting in the morning. Hopefully it will see blood again this Fall.

I'm a big fan of short handled hatchets like the GB. I use a Wetterlings, but it functions the same. You can carve and whittle with mine, chop kindling, process game. Tremendous versatility.

That's nice. I have the Fiskars version, the Back Paxe II.

I wasn't too sure about the short handle, but I like it and use it all the time especially firewood prep for the woodstove.

Could you guys educate me on why this is such a good hatchet. I've read it many times but no one ever elaborates. Is it superior steel or design? It looks like a quality tool in the picture but beyond that I don't know.

judman, you got that handle smoothed-up and flamed and BLO'ed yet? You gonna cut that leather 'nose' off'n the sheath to behind the poll so you can pound stakes and drive nails without taking it off?
