I keep a K-Bar USN model knife in the pocket on the back of my seat in my truck.
Also have a Benchmade knife in my pocket any time I have my pants on.

This is a lightweight combo of knife/saw/hatchet. Only 1.5 lbs all in. If I'm going for a day out these usually end up in the pack. Mora Companion Silky Super Accel 210 Gransfors Bruk Mini (410) small ferro rod with striker

Everyday clipped inside right rear pants pocket. I don't have a bug out bag. Where would one see those? Price? Like you, I don't worry about a bag knife. I carry it in my pocket everywhere I go. LOL at last count Carolyn carried 3 knives IIRC and at least one CHL at any given time. I only have 2 knives and same...

I have a pocket, with a folder in it. No bugs, no bags.
Something clever here.

I've worked with various steels for years. I know their properties. All modern tool steels will make a good knife blade if they're properly heat treated. D2 is commonly used to make piercing dies for punching holes in steel. It's *very* tough when it's taken up to Rockwell 62, or so. But it's a bear to work with. A2 is another tool steel that makes a good knife blade.
But I've learned to appreciate good old high carbon steel,..somewhere around 1095, for knife blades. I like the way it'll take a superfine edge. You have to care for it. It'll rust easy. But a knife made of 1095 that's had an razor edge put on it with an extra fine stone is a nice tool to work with.

Most of my stuff is 1095, the Beckers, KA-BARs, RAT, ESEE.
The Falcon and EOD are both 5160.
The Blackbird is stainless, not sure what exactly, maybe ATS-30??? Something like that. It sharpens up easily enough on a stone.

4" Victorinox serrated paring knife. Most useful knife I've ever owned and the SOB stays sharp after cutting cardboard, rope, leather, etc.! Costs around $8.00 and handy as hell as a neck knife (or in a bag, or truck door, or tackle box, or kitchen drawer....).

Regardless of what many say, a little knife can't do everything a big knife can. No it can't. A well made larger knife will do heavy cutting chores and hold a workable edge through tasks that would destroy lighter built knives. Still, a well put together small knife is a joy to own and use. And always there when you need it Through my military years I carried a 7" Randall that I bought just off post at a Bragg Blvd Gun shop, near Ft Bragg. The day I bought the Randall, the shop owner gave me a small folding Gerber (Gerber Classic). I loved and still love the Randall. But the little Gerber became my constant companion. I carried both knives on 3 continents. The Randall was a comfort in just knowing it was there if needed. The Gerber carried the load

If you live in a bug out house you don't need a bug out bag.

You never know what you are going to run into or need, but I end up with two options for different needs, One I carry is a leatherman. I don't especially need the one with the most tools, but I carry the Wingman. But you never know when you will need something bigger and I see where Buck has come up with their Ka-bar version. https://www.amazon.com/Buck-Knives-0119BRS1-Brahma-Compatible/dp/B00RQ7W6O8It's tough to decide on Ka-bars as the quality varies. With this one they use a variation of the Buck 119, which is a great blade, but the black phenolic handle gets slick when it's bloody. Buck handles that with this version. No point in dramatizing this I guess. Just want to point out Buck has brought out a nice version of a Ka-bar knife, which I think is pretty nice, for many uses. Bug out...to where? added, if where I live is screwed then the rest of the world has ceased to exist.

I don't have a bug out bag. Where I live I'm already bugged out. I do carry a KA-BAR USMC combat knife in my Jeep all the time and have a Real Steel 101 Thor clipped in my right front pocket every day.

Buck 110, I own several and leave on in the car, one in the truck, one in my hunting pack (truck), and one in my survival pack (car).
