I bought a Marlin in the early '90s from a pawn shop for the huge sum of $210. They bring a mite more than that now... I mounted a Burris fixed 4x with a Post & Crosshair and it shoots very well. Haven't hunted it in years and intended to this season but just didn't get around to it.

I've had one for over 30 years. Accurate and hits deer hard. Unfortunately I haven't used it as much as I wanted.

Marlin only made around 2,500 of the 336 ERs in 356.

I have a .356 94BB currently, traded an TC encore for it. Reloaded some Mild 200g RN Hornady reloads, still shooting them for fun. I may get serious and reload some of the 220g speer bullets for timber elk hunting. It has a XS peep sight on it, very easy gun to carry. I wouldn't call it super accurate about 1.5-2 inch with my current load. Good enough i guess.

I have a couple of .307's as well, paid about $250 a piece in 2001. One my dad used for a while and shot a few mule deer, he loved his 30-30 mag as he called it, he passed away three years ago, so that gun came back to me. That one will get some 170 partition loads so it can go deer or elk hunting next year.

Check out the latest speer data for both cartridges they did some testing with some of the new alliant powders. There is a 307 150g load with AR-Comp powder that they have listed at 2800. looks interesting.

I liked the 375 /Winchester better. I should have kept it.

Wanted to buy a Marlin or Winny lever in .356 but could not find one. Ended up with a Marlin 375 (..375 Win) instead. Great little rifle. With a Speer 235g it is effective for my purposes out to 250-300 yards.

With a max rise of 3", the 235g Speer @ 2084fps and 6500ft altitude is down 3" at 205 yards with 1698fps and 1504fpe. At 300 yards it is down 19.7" with 1538fpes and 1235fpe, which, according to Speer, is approaching the low end of where the bullet should expand.

While I've enjoyed it for about 18 years, it has not gone hunting in years. It probably will again but I doubt i'll be buying any more lever guns (also have .30-30, .44 Mag and .45-70) unless they are chambered for .22LR or .22WM.

If I was in an area where I hunted in thick brush, a lever in .356 or .375 would be hard to beat,

Brass sources are slim, as Winchester has not made a run for a while.
But I find factory ammo occasionally. Two boxes of 200gr just last week.
