But can you help an ignorant Easterner out here? What the hell is a "Shoulder Season" or what does that mean?

The shoulder season is basically just an extended season for elk on private lands that happens outside of the archery and general elk seasons. It is a terrible name. In some units it starts in August and ends in Feb.

Thanks, I figured it was something like that. My first thought was that you could only shoot them in the shoulder, but I knew that wasn't right. It had to be some stupid government term.

Thanks, I figured it was something like that. My first thought was that you could only shoot them in the shoulder, but I knew that wasn't right. It had to be some stupid government term. Winter is hard on the shoulders because you have to carry more gear in your backpack..... Or something.
