All:
A guy in our town is selling one. Is this a rare configuration? I don’t pay attention to these but spot them every now and then. It’s actually a perfect setup for here. 357 for deer and 20 gauge for grouse. Guy wants $800. Sounds steep to me but I don’t follow them.

It blows my mind what the 24's bring

that chamber combo is kind of rare. they command the highest prices. one on gb right now with starting 900.00. you may luck out and have one that is accurate. i have had a dozen or so over the years and was never overwhelmed with their accuracy. i am lusting for a 222/20 myself. and the prices all of a sudden have gone insane.

I've said this before, but I can't rationalize that much cash being asked for a bargain store gun. Eight hundred bucks could buy me any number of damn nice sporting rifles or scatter guns that didn't begin their lives in discount stores. Sorry if I made anyone mad but I still don't see that kind of value in the 24.

He will get $800 if he is patient, in that cal/gauge combo and it is in good condition. Not sure why but the much more common 24s bring over $400 these days.

Kinda like M6- scouts. Not that well made, but I still want one.

the only real difference between a good tracker and a bad tracker, is observation. all the same data is present for both. The rest, is understanding what you're seeing.

I traded a Nylon 66 for a 24V in 357 MAX at a pawn shop last month. It had been rechambered from 357 MAG and shows a bit of character, but I had $160 in the Nylon 66 and figured that even a bubba'd 24V was worth $160, plus I don't particularly care for Nylon 66s.
Last week I turned it around for a minty CLR in 300 WIN MAG, another rifle that I don't particularly need.

I think that there is an elk hunter somewhere out there who wants a light to carry bolt gun in 300 WIN MAG.
I think that I could trade it even up for a Winchester 70 XTR FWT in 7x57, but I'm not shooting any of the 11 rifles in 7x57 that I already have.

You can get a hella nice 99 for 800-bucks. Didn't they use to sell these things in the Wards catalog? Seriously, they used to sell 311s in the Wards catalog. Sorry, I just can't get into the 24.

Hopefully it is in good shape and he'll come down in price. Good luck if you end up liking it!

Just because they sold them in the Wards catalog don't mean a thing. They also sold Browning A-5's in the Wards catalog.

Yes, and I've seen screamin' A5s languish on gun show tables at less money than that. A Browning A5 does not a Savage 24 make. The 24 might be a fun gun to shoot but at the prices they demand, which obviously puts me in the minority, is a real mood killer. Jeff asked for opinions here and I'm being honest to my perspective. It's just not the same as everyone else.
