Again, not every rifle needs a heavy optic and a permanently mounted bipod.

Shown below is a S&W M&P Sport II which is listed at about 6.5 lbs. The rifle can be had for $479.99. How much weight can rea$onably be cut by replacing the furniture yet sticking with an adjustable stock? I'm considering a woman/young shooter rifle.

You would do better with a pencil barrel to start with.

And going light is not cheap.

I'd shop around and start with something that has a pencil barrel, like TWR said. You could "reasonably" cut a full pound off that M&P yourself, but you'd replace almost everything except the receiver and internals. If that's what you want, you're a lot better off to assemble the parts yourself from scratch.

Anything below about 5.5 lb will drive price up pretty quick.
