I wouldn't be at all disappointed if they sent one as a replacement

I don't see a gnat's ass difference between the two.

I sent in an old gloss Vari X III 1.5-5x20 that had gone bonkers, wouldn't adjust, 2 foot groups from a MOA rifle.
Well, I just got a new VX3i 1.5-5x20 today. Looks good.
I can't tell any difference between the VX-3 and VX-3i.

I saw a LOT of difference between Vari-X III 2.5-8x and a new VX-3i 2.5-8x. Not sure which model transition ushered in the most improvement though.

Same or better. Light transmission may be 1-2% higher on the 3i. My eyes can't detect this though.

probably just me but at last light it does seem that the contrast of the reticle to the background was much better. shot a hog at very, very last light this year and give the credit to the 3i but who knows.

The adjustment clicks on my vx3 are way better than the vx3i that I have. I have also heard the same from a friend of mine.

I don't know anything about the vx3, but I have two vx3is and the adjustment clicks are right on with both of them.

I have both and honestly can't tell any difference at all. This is my experience, too.
