Mart, have you done anything with or had any interest in the .375 Whelen?

This thread has been helpful to me. I'm thinking about buying this Ruger #1 in 35 Whelen that my son saw at a local gun show about a month ago. The guy is checking to see if he still has it. They want $950.00 for it and my son says the wood is beautiful. It would be my first #1 and my first 35 Whelen. I don't reload, so I'm trying to figure out what kind of factory ammo to shoot. I like Barnes TTSX in other rifles, so I was thinking about 200gr. in this. For now, it would be on whitetails, but in the future, who knows. What say you?

If I was going TTSX I would go lighter than 200 grains to ensure the velocity is there to open the bullet beyond 250 yards. They offer a .35 180 grain no?

Yes, 180gr are 2900 fps and the 200's are 2700 fps. Thanks for the input.

Yes I have. I picked up a Sedgley Springfield 30-06 with a rough bore. It still shot pretty well but I got into right and thought it would make a good 375 Whelen. I sent it off to JES Reboring and had him do the job. I really liked it and did a lot of load development with it. I never did hunt it and in a moment of weakness I sold it to fund another project. I've offered to buy it back but the gentleman is not parting with it.

If I stumble onto to the right candidate, I would be really inclined to have another one done. The 375 Whelen, like the 35 Whelen, can be many things. There are good bullets that make either a 300+ yard deer/caribou/antelope rifle and others turn it into a great elk/moose/bear rifle. The Nosler35/250 and 375/260 Partition would cover both worlds. Both can shoot cast well and both can be made to mimic lighter rounds like the 35 Remington and 375 Winchester/38-55.

There's a lot to like about all the Whelens.

Facts and Physics are the antithesis of Fluff. Google it and nod your head like you "know".

Pardon bullets mattering more than headstamps.

You haven't the "means","abilities" or "comprehension" to begin to keep pace and it's funnier than fhuqk, that even someone as STUPID as you, knows that.

But, a lot of the midwestern states that were previously Shotgun Only have started allowing .35 and larger centerfires. So with an eye toward the Midwest the Whelen makes a lot of sense.

Akin to "lauding" a 308Win,amongst disciplines where it's the only allowed "choice".(grin)

I'd drive a 338 Whelen,stamped "35 Whelen".

Hint....... another fluffernutter that can't make his case without resorting to personal attacks and/or cursing. The initials of his moniker say it all.....BS.
The ignore list gets a bit longer.

My initial thought when I read the title and opened the thread...…..

Hold the Whelen and pass the 338-06 please.
